Is it possible that the current step of the quest simply has the same clue as the previous step? This can happen sometimes - for example, let's say you have to find letters, and the first clue is "by a pond". You find the first letter, but the next letter is also by a pond (could be the same pond, but more likely a different one). While technically the clue text did update, it looks like it didn't because the two texts are identical.
If you don't want to spoil potential readers, you could enclose the respective text in spoiler tags (spoiler)like this(/spoiler), just with brackets instead of parantheses. The text will be hidden until the reader reader moves the mouse over it, so no one should get spoiled involuntarily. Here's how it looks like with brackets: like this
There are also things you just have to find on your own that aren't technically in the hidden object category. Like statues, tiles, and honeyforms
also you can still get hints for tiles and statues and the like. she points to the correct one.
So check everywhere just to be sure it didn't drop as an item somewhere. If you can't find it then report it in the cozy grove discord. They have a bug report section there.
