you're as wrong as it gets
it is early wipe , merc don't have the OP passives to regen HP yet, Aliens , if they play togerher, are stupidly strong at this point of the game , every ability deals dmg , you just need to gather enough energy , spam like a ******* and gg you win against 80%+ of mercs
That is only because mercs don't know how to play. We had this ♥♥♥♥ happen in all betas. Alien feels strong for 2 days because noob alien is stronger than noob merc but then Mercs figure out the mechanics and Aliens are complete joke. I had over 4 KD vs Aliens on last beta as SOLO merc.
When both plays correctly. Alien is completely countered by Mercs. You won't even unlock good abilities until around 10 min mark at which point good mercs extract already.
The mercs are just very weak.
Once they are geared it becomes absolutelly awefull to play.
Sounds like aliens need their own perma progression system, Dying Light did that with it's asymetric PvPvE mulitplayer, giving the zombie players their very own progression system.
aliens are supposed to put constant pressure on a squad, constantly whittling them down with poison spit in tight corridors, wasting their supplies via spitting on flares, and fakeout attacks where you charge then divert, again, whittling down that HP pool.
the Humans have several critical resources to survive, glowsticks that cannot be countered, but do little damage, flares that don't last long and can be spat out, torches, the facility lighting, and their own HP, playing alien is about slowly breaking them by whittling down these resources.
if they stay in one "strong spot" forever they'll run out of resources, if they roam the map you'll find plenty of chances to Egg trap them, that does very good damage to them.
as alien, play hit and run, never commit, if you get a chance, run in, swipe a guy once or twice, then abort.
poison spit is insanely useful to separate squads at doorways, you can also fire it into elevators and wipe extracting squads if they are all low, it's also good to spit at a downed player to secure the kill and damage anyone who tries to save them.
another good tactic is to observe players, if you notice a player tends to try and chase you when you run, set up some egg traps, bait them into chasing you, then while they are animation stuck, poison spit them or get a few swipes in, the egg traps also cause them to drop whatever they are holding at the time to the floor, if it's a torch and they are alone, you can spit on the torch or put yourself between it and them, if you can force them to abandon the torch on the floor while it lays there, running down the battery, that's a huge victory for you.
To all people having issues - here are some advices:
1. Never rush into the enemies with melee, even after EMP. Mercs have chemlights and flares, and they'll use them. You should instead prioritise spit and gas bomb attacks from afar, preferably from vents, so that enemy never knows where you're coming from.
2. You can restore your energy very quickly if you stand on exposed electric wires, they're highlighter with your special vision that you can activate with ALT.
3. Use your abilities to control mercs, you can harass them so that they're locked into a corner with one exit, which you can trap with your facehugger eggs and then gas them up while they have nowhere to run.
All in all, the main thing to remember is that you aren't supposed to be a tank. You are an ambusher, you have to hide, shoot from the shadows, and not expose yourself up until the enemies are either very close to death, or are out of light sources (preferably both).
It's also great to join the fun while people are shooting each other, because their hands are too busy holding guns instead of flashlights.
Hope this helps somebody, good hunting!
