Great game but...
The game is nice, relaxing and fun to play, but I have one major grip with it: there are way too many water+rail tiles. I feel like 10-15% of tiles are rail+water tiles and there is no way in the universe that you can end up with something good looking, let alone something efficient. I know you're not supposed to have a perfect optimized layout every game, but these tiles are too restrictive and usually end up being dumped somewhere which give you a lot of disconnected rivers or railways, which kind of breaks immersion...

Just my two cents.

Hmm, you probably got unlucky? I'm guessing in my games about less than 5% are rail/water.

Unless you get many rail or water tile with 4 or 5 branches, you won't get such landscapes. Most of the time, it is possible to make one lone and consistent railway or river. You can easily use watertrain station, end of railway or lake to close the branches you don't want to use!
I don't mind the amount of water/rail tiles, I mind how often they're just tight little corner turns. You often don't make these long straight shots from one place to the next (which can look great if you had two separate towns across your map), instead this weird zig zag railway into the middle of nowhere, with random trees, farms, and houses all over with no rhyme or reason. XD

Well there are a few videos on youtube where people get persistant scores above 10k. So I think its just a matter how you handle the rail- and water ways. If you just "dump" them it seems that you missing out on 10% of your pile.

I can confirm that, after 20 hours in the game, I almost never get less than 7k, I often get 10K, however my best score remain 14000, I feel like it is impossible to go forever, but I may be mistaken.

This was the FIRST thing I noticed. MOST of my tiles that had rails were accompanied by rivers, which made early placement exceptionally problematic for the late game..

i think it`s a combination of both. too much tiles with river-rail combo and that there are always sharp curves in the rails. i have to link all my rivers tightly to the rails to deal with this. and even than i have to build long rivers with weird lonely railbits aside

With the sharp bends in rail its fun to just make a long serpentine shape. Give it a try.

I usually close those lonely rails with 2 more sharp curve tiles to a full circle.
