Will Handsome Jack return and receive a proper catharsis?
Because I hope so, everything was set up for it in the first game. No, changing the studio and does not allow for creative freedom of retcon when this has been done twice. You are not allowed to do it once, but you would be doing it twice due to the blunder the third game is. And no, having Imbecile Pitchford kicking you at work does not justify eating it up. Developers, stand up to yourselves and make the games you love, not the games you are made to make.

From the looks of it, Handsome Jack will not be featured in game. The game seems to take place after the events of Borderlands 3.

Unless i'm misremembering things the opposite was setup that the destruction of Jack's AI meant he was gone for good.

Well, it depends on which one is considered as "canon". Considering there still was some Handsome Jack content, hovewer scarce, in BL3, it is not impossible to have him re-introduced in the form of an A.I. construct, as he was in Tales from the Borderlands.

Well i suppose but there is also diminishing returns and unnecessary repetition.
Jack's AI meant he was gone for good.

Theres a theory that rhys gave the eye or ai piece to someone who made put it in the jackhammer gun but who knows that is if the canon says that rhys crushes the echo eye🤷🏻‍♂️ Etc

Rather than unnecessary repetition, Jack still has not gotten a proper conclusion and catharsis. If they did not want to capitalise on it, they would not have made him a tragic hero in Pre-sequel, now they have the obligation to finish the original intentions for his character.

He received a proper conclusion in the first game.

jack already got his finale and catharsis in b2. b3 had some secrets that shows some stuff regarding jack and angel's past life, and the jackpot dlc in b3 kinda flesh out the secret backup plan he got in case his plan to control the warrior in b2 fails. tftb shows another sides of jack through nakayama's jack ai that also got his own conclusion and catharsis.

so, i guess jack's story was already finished. but his legacy could still affect further stuff in new borderlands iterations.

Well he is dead so that would be a no.
Klauth Oct 22, 2022 @ 3:06am
Jack was physically dead in bl2, then digitally dead in tftb, for good.
Rest in peace, old sucker ...

in b2 he already got his wish to die in a warm place with some hot chick nearby.

thats a quote that b1.5 jack says in one of the quest, he retro(future?)actively predict his own death.

He had a cathartic ending in the first tales from the borderlands game. He admits he started out with good intentions, then everyone close to him betrayed him, and everything got out of control.

It's a good moment, and even has a nice 'a tiger can't change its stripes' moment as he tries to strangle Rhys one last time before he gets removed.

He had an "ending". but no redemption or acknowledgement of his tragic descent into antagonism. There was a very impactful moment for his A.I. which still has the healthy "hero" complex, it is when Rhys tells him that his daughter was done in by Jack himself. And from that moment it should have started a very interesting sort of reflection on Jack's whole history. That all he has ever done lead to his daughter's suffering.

His A.I. COULD recover and do something very heroic for various reasons, as the writers see fit. Him asking not to be erased because he fears oblivion is also a very "commendable" begging. There is still quite some that could have been done with his persona. A very simple example is Jack doing another 180 as with Hyperion, when Rhys brought him and he took over the station. Handsome Jack A.I. could get into an another powerful system, take control over it and then start alluding that he will now crush the heroes again (thought almost everyone concerned with him, except Rhys, is already history). Except he does not, comments how he will just again make a circle where everyone hates him and he achieves nothing (a fundamental reflection on his history up to date) and just does what he promised - helps the good guys. That's it. This is his "heroic" "self-" sacrifice that concludes his whole arc which set the universe of Borderlands in motion. I expect him to have nothing less than this grand exit where he is, for once, acknowledged a hero.
