Substance 3D Designer 2021

Substance 3D Designer 2021

How to import from designer to painter in active session?
https://substance3d.adobe.com/magazine/a-smoother-texturing-experience-with-substance-3d-painter/

Here it is shown that you can import active material from designer to painter by pressing send to, but for me there is only substance player in that menu. Is there something wrong with my install? Tried with steam and standalone versions.

what I do is publish to SBAR file in the package. Then drag that material over to my shelf in Painter...

Same idea, you can do this in two different places.. Top of the UI there or what I do in the actually package when you right click the package itself.

There is no real action session, it don't work that way.. Designer makes Smart mats, which you use inside of Painter. You can update these as well, same way as I said above. Some folks make external tools to make it more seamless as well.. I have and many others I know have.

I know how to import sbsar, but in the new version it's possible to link designer and painter. That's handy, but doesn't work for some reason.

Moreover, provided you haven’t closed your session of Sampler/Designer and Painter, you can modify assets in Sampler and Designer after the fact, and update your asset in Painter with a click. So, let’s imagine you create a material in Designer, send it across to Painter, and apply it to a mesh. You then decide to modify your material in Designer, and resend the new result to Painter. In this case, the material or filter will update automatically in the asset library.

The link between the apps is unfortunately limited to Adobe licenses at the moment because we rely on an Adobe API that ships with CC Desktop to handle sending assets back and forth.

Steam and standalone versions that can be downloaded from the site. That's sad.

I think it's you who must learn to read. There is literally new option for live session editing, just not for us, steam plebs. Dev confirmed it right there.

No there isn't... Its what we just said..... That is what he is talking about.....KIDS today... How many years and hours have you used Designer, Painter...... I'm actually a Designer... developer ...

"The link between the apps is unfortunately limited to Adobe licenses at the moment because we rely on an Adobe API that ships with CC Desktop to handle sending assets back and forth."

Completely different..

You asked for import...if you want LIVE link, TOTALLY different, there are third parties programs..... but clearly you don't want HELP, like the rest of you kids today, you like to argue instead, when you ask for help.... this is why experience devs ignore you...

GOOD luck getting help in the future..

Now this future, was just added, recently.... on the 23 of June... 2021.

Send To functionality
Adobe versions of Substance 3D Designer have new Send To functionality, letting you send assets to other Substance 3D applications quickly. No more need to publish as SBSAR and load up individual files, Send To solves this in one click.

this was just added the last update.... for non Steam versions ....

Steam versions of Substance 3D Designer do not feature the Send To functionality. Which is NOT Steam related....

when I worked at the Studio I used the non STeam version.... which is this version.... which has this function, most of us already added with our own custom tools years ago... You can with the Steam version too...

I stand CORRECT, Steam Substance Designer DOES not have a way, unless you use a third party program, or do it by the Library way explained.... as I said... or make it your self, I know kids today don't or won't make it them selves, they would rather complain.

PS for other users, there also are a few live links, that work well, if you use, Maya, Blender, Modo, Houdini and so on... and Unity, Unreal and the list goes on.. Designer to another program, or Painter to another program.. Which are also nice. for easier work flows... They do work with Steam versions ... Not really a import between Designer to Painter.... but its still makes it an easier work flow, because a lot of the times, we are testing and using UE, Unity, , Blender, Modo, Maya or what ever.. your favorite 3d program software is....

Plenty around and they work great..

ADOBE, always finds ways to try and cut the STeam version out... Nothing new there, that is THE ADOBE motto..... Sub, crap... BUT don't worry its easy to make your own work flow, many users have years ago and still do.. Unless they try to cut that out, which I wouldn't be surprised... .if they pull that trash. I bet there goal sooner or later is to dump the Steam version.. Just saying. but for now we can just enjoy what we got.:)
