There's also an achievement for 100 ascensions.
Each time you ascend in early to mid game, you get to spend your prestige points on heavenly upgrades, which you take with you after the ascension. Those upgrades are valuable in-game. So look on the heavenly upgrades screen before you ascend, buy the upgrades you can afford, then look to see how many legacy points it will cost to get your next few heavenly upgrades you cannot yet afford, and don't ascend the next time until you have that many prestige/legacy points.
