While the crop is alive, it adds 1% cps so when you remove it or it dies, you lose 1% per plant removed. Its in the description when you hover over the seed.

oh, i thought it meant +1 cps every harvest

It states while alive and it scales with plant growth. .25% up to 1% when fully mature. Look along the growth line and you will see the stages the plants grow thru.
