Ascending with just 1 prestige is nearly entirely pointless because you can't afford upgrading yet. Try to aim for 400-500.
Then in your next run it goes super fast and it's completely up to you. I don't know why some people recommend ascending quickly. With 400 prestige you are getting a 400% boost in your next run, meaning everything is 4 times faster to reach. If you take an early prestige and get single digits increase it still takes forever to unlock stuff.
With a 4x boost from 400 prestige you can basically get to an absurd amount of prestige and from then on it's just billions, trillions and quadrillions of prestige until you've unlocked everything. Good luck.
Note: "I am at day twelve by now and still a rookie, so please don't take everything I would recommend for granted". The pros could give better advice.
First ascension at 38 thus you could at least buy a few heavenly upgrades and receive a boost of 38% for the next run.
Just suggesting: Next at ca 1200 then 120k, add a factor of 10 or more each time if possible.
Currently I have 14 ascensions and 300Tr legacy points, 89% cookies, 84% Achievements but this is just the beginning of a long journey. Finally I am banging my had on a brick wall called the sexdecillion barrier.
Good luck and enjoy your game.
