I'm not a pro, but you should buy the perk that earns you Cookies when the game is closed. By default you don't earn Cookies unless the game is opened. I don't remember how much it costs, but this guide should help. You could also run the game 24/7. I have done this for more than a month.

I would try to purchase the first three upgrades from the Demon Heavenly upgrades. The Belphegor (7 Ascension) at 2 hour optimal Cookie production, Mammon (49 Ascension) at 4 hour optimal Cookie production, and Abaddon (343 Ascension) at 8 hour optimal Cookie production.
