Another issue that can occur is that occasionally the plants will stop growing if you're not actively watching the garden as in if the garden menu is minimised or if you click off the tab to use your browser. In which case you should open the garden and leave the game on the screen for awhile and it'll fix itself.
Hope that helps.
That's good, glad it's resolved.
Elderwart makes surrounding plants age 3% faster, so surrounding it with them probably forced the game to recalculate the growth rate and subsequently released the soft-lock.
