I've heard people say 200, so you can get a good incremental upgrade, but that's just for the hardcore players. I was getting stuck in a rut, so I ascended at +4, and it seemed to help. Just do whatever you want, if it's sub-optimal, then it'll just take a bit longer.
There's an achievement for 1000 ascensions, so don't be stingy.

You can ascend at +7 but you are wasting your time. To say it's not optimal is understating it... you're getting basically nothing. Literally just +7% CPS, so imagine the equivalent of buying a cookie that gives +7%.

Check the ascension guide on this forum and follow that. They even have one for "impatient to ascend". The first game before you legacy is BY FAR the longest, but there's no point in doing it sooner.

Do what you'd like, but ascending at 440 means you snowball HARD for the next like dozen ascensions.

This is the guide I used for ascensions! It might help if you don't know what the best items to purchase are (I know I didn't lol).
