The purchase value of buildings is paced pretty well. If you don't try to rush it and get some good golden cookie combos in your progression is pretty smooth. That said, I do use cookie monster to help calculate the return on investment (building/upgrade price vs CpS gained) to find the most beneficial items to advance my progress.

Some of us have been playing for years. There are strategies to make the game go faster, but they require a good understanding of how the game works in the first place.

I use Cookie Monster and an autoclicker.

Cookie monster good, permanent autoclickers are for chumps. I do have an autoclick toggle on my mouse I turn on during frenzy combos and for Click Frenzy, because I do want to avoid getting a carpal tunnel from playing an idle game. Otherwise the autoclicker stays off for me.

I use the autoclicker for frenzies when I'm being active, and for click frenzy. I don't leave it running, but I don't care how other people acquire their fictional pixelated cookies. There's no wrong way to play. (I've never cheated to get cookies, but I don't care if other people do.)
