Can anyone find Charlotte for the The Master Detective's Assistant quest?

I can't find her for the life of me. I believe that this is a quest that makes a character spawn at a specific spot, as I managed to find her in the morning one day, but when I switched to this quest she disappeared.

I've searched all over the town and I can't find hide nor hair of her.

I assume it has to do with using the dog to sniff where William has taken the autograph but I haven't figured it out as William's scent seems to just lead to his perpetually empty house.

The exact same thing happened to me, tho. One random day at 7ish in the morning (not sure of the actual weekday) I saw Charlotte walking on the road next to Fancy and Bunny. Like you, I quickly switched to the Master Detective quest so I could talk to her about it, but as soon as I got out of the menu, she had mysteriously disappeared. She is sooo elusive.

I'm starting to think this game might have a hidden month system to it too. I need Emma's picture for a quest, for example, and I remember always seeing her almost everyday near the church. However, now being much deeper in the game, she's never there anymore. It's very frustrating and strange. It also seems to be raining way more often too.

She only appears on specific days, and takes the shrine to warp(!)... to the white woods or the next town over. Its honestly thanks to how elusive charlotte is that I learned that villagers use the shrines in the first place.

Okay, problem solved:
When doing that quest, she's in front of the Macauley house, but only on Tuesdays and Fridays. And I think you have to follow her 'trail' from William's house (though, I'd specifically picked up her scent beforehand so I could follow it properly and it doesn't show up as her.)

Yeah, it's a little hard to understand since Route B has the only questline that flat-out explains this to you, and I think you only discover why it is in a sidequest, but the McCauley kids will each only appear on certain days of the week, even if you've got the required quest selected.

When you activate that quest, Charlotte will teleport to her home. You need to go there at a certain time on a certain day and she will be waiting.
