Sadly I predict it will be a mess.
Good post
From what i understand, Rocket Racer is the "final boss" of LEGO racers.
Since LEGO 2k drive is NOT "LEGO racers" / "LEGO racers 3", we shouldn't be expecting the same characters. LEGO racers was from 1999. LEGO 2k drive is comming in 2023, which is more than 20 years later. Of course we are going to see some kind of modernisation with new, modern content (talking about open world, field challenges, new bricks options, detailled customisation, ...) .
And modern DLC Pass BS which is the actual issue here.
As for open world, it's nothing new to Lego Racers, as Lego Racers 2 was open world. Neither are field challenges, as Lego Racers 2 also had that. From what we've seen about the game so far, it pretty much is Lego Racers 3, all but in name, and of course, Rocket Racer not being here.
Oof! Probably not a good idea to bring up elements from Lego Racers 2. Last I checked those features were implemented poorly and that game is the reason there wasn’t a Lego Racers 3.
Even if nowadays there are examples of how to do these right, I’m not sure if 2K can be trusted to pull it off given their track record with other licensed sports games.
More content you have to pay extra money for, not to mention there’s no guarantee the content actually will give you more reason to play.
