In fairness, he was an outstanding boxer. The version Ali fought IRL was not his prime. If it was, it might have been really dangerously close. A toss up on who would be the better conditioned during the day of the fight.
First time Ali faced Patterson, Ali disrespected Patterson in every way and beated him easily. Second time they fought (last Patterson fight if I recall right) Patterson performance was much better even if Ali was holding back as many claimed. A much more mature Ali respected Floyd by then and gave him credit.
You can watch Ali Patterson 2 in youtube. It is the closest thing to an Ali- Mike Tyson fight we ever got. You can see the moves Cus Damato would teach Tyson so many years later in Floyd.
