I will fix the body block issue
Obviously body uppercuts are the scourge of enjoyable online matches at the moment, body shots in general are to easy to go for with no real ability to punish body spam. I offer my humble opinion on how the devs can go about changing this.

1. Increased vulnerability when throwing body shots.
Obviously irl fighters don't spam body shots bc they'd get knocked out instantly. It would be nice to counter body shots with uppercuts, but really any head punch should do big damage against someone winding up a body shot. Yes retreating jabs/straights are ok against body shots, but they don't do enough damage to discourage spam. You have to do the backstep straight everytime to get out of there but it will rarely ever rock an opponent.

2. The block system needs fixing. Body uppers go straight through the low block and body hooks seem only partially affected. My proposal is to have the low block stop body uppercuts and straights 100% of the time. I think its fine for body hooks to get around the sides of the low guard. I'd have hooks be blocked by not holding block at all. With your hands low and at your sides you should be in a good position to catch hooks while leaving your center midsection and head unprotected. I'd also like to see the high guard be less effective against uppercuts to the head. Head uppercuts are the hardest to land so I'd like to have them split the guard to give more options to open up passive fighters. The low block already does defend against head uppercuts as well.

3. Reduce damage on body uppercuts relative to hooks and head punches. While I'd like to see damage go up in general, body uppercuts are simply too damaging in relation to other punches. Tone it down. If the first 2 options aren't feasibly in the short or long term, then I'd simply turn the damage way down on body uppers. If we're going to have a long range guard-penetrating punch in this game then it ought to do less damage than other punches, not more.

The comments who say you gotta do this or gotta do that... you know are big users of the exploit

you gotta circle away from the damn uppercut. dash backwards. or just let loose and hit him back in the body when you're 100% sure hes boutta start. fix ya damn self

But yeah, you can't just extend your elbows down and roll them around your body in reality.
Of course blocking low and bending down doesn't really work. You have uncovered sides, even in game. But you can defend multiple body uppercuts if you bend right (left or right). What is wrong is not being able to move, so you either get hit and leave or stand there until they get through and you get hit and leave, that's why defending body uppercuts now is meaningless (right now).

i dont have a better way of making the controls though. you really are onto something here, as usual. you offer some wisdom

Yes, this is the current way to fight it. Should that be how it works though? Somebody spamming body punches with no setup and you have no way to defend or punish other than running. Body punches should be very powerful, but they should also put you at risk of a knockout if you get caught throwing them.

my favorite for any spammer is to fake them out with the distance. like im coming in and out, losing the trades likely, and then i just stop an inch short of coming back in, he starts spammin whatever his 2 favorite punches are, then i actually go in there and fight after hes missed 2 or 3

This or variations of this is ultimately why I think spam shouldn’t be a main concern. If people lose to it then they are not finding the pattern. Spammers don’t adjust well overall. It’s a very few that spam or just run and go solely for a win using cheese mechanics. Basic spam counters:
1. Vary punch patterns such as number thrown
2. Use distance and steal “turns” (ex. Press forward to engage when the expected action is to retreat and vice versa).
3. Change tempo of punches

When we can switch stances…that’s a whole new level of strats too. Maybe I’m a broken record I just don’t think spam is anything near game breakjng in this game at all. Body uppercuts need more block and movement work than anything punch related imo.

and if hes not giving you a pattern to learn and beat, well, what is the problem, he just has better hand speed? then dont get mad about it lol just say wow that guy threw fast. if you cant beat the spammer, maybe hes good and a spammer
