Jimmy never leaves room?

So I was doing decently until about an hour in, when Jimmy would check the room I was in, he wouldn't leave. He sits in the bathroom no matter how long I sit and wait in the wardrobe.
I've come out early, died, my mistake. I've waited for it to sound like he's yelling out in the hallway, thinking it's safe. I come out and even though I heard him yelling DISTANTLY, he's in the bathroom and kills me. I'm only 33% complete with the story and he's probably killed me 10 different times by just camping the bathroom. Not sure what I'm doing wrong at this point or if the AI just hates me.

You can always escape the room if he's in the bathroom - just hold down the mouse button to move to the door then exit - he'll stay in the room until he knows you've moved far enough away. Don't know why you can hear him in the distance though...

This is also how you use the deadlock keys to lock him in right? Does using the key when in the room do anything?

Yes if you've got the key - but If he's in the room when you lock it from the inside you'll get whacked whatever happens...

I'll need to work up the nerve to bait him into this at some point. I've heard if you aren't in the wardrobe by the time you hear the door open he'll bait you and hide in the bathroom. Is this true?

If you hang around in the room without going in the wardrobe he'll whack you from behind!
