I really feel like there's no point in playing anything but Meta Decks.
Like, literally no point to it. If it's not Fire king, Rescue-Ace, or Snake eyes you can't compete.

I hate those deck and I'm happier reached max lvl with my Horus Ra.

My unchained and gold pride punk would like to disagree.

Depends what your trying to do. Also those decks can be beaten pretty well by many other decks. Its just that the other decks are either unexplored or not reliable enough against the majority of match ups given.

I enjoy playing vampires but at the certain point on ladder I know it will stop climbing. Still there isn't anywhere up to master where my Chaos decks can't go. So I'll just switch to something slightly more powerful and keep going.

Meta is most effective. Not the only effective tactic.

Invest in Umi Control, then go first and watch them cry.

honestly, you can compete with most non tier 1 decks and rogue decks if you play good enough

People like to say their pet deck can compete with meta, but not really. Meta is powerful enough that an idiot player can do reasonably well even if they don't fully understand their combo lines. Your dinky little toon world deck is only going to win if the opponent bricks or makes an awful mistake that finally gives you a chance.

Meta decks are popular because they're powerful. Naturally, weaker players will want to play with stronger decks to compensate for their lack of skill and knowledge. You aren't beating a skilled player with a meta deck unless they get very unlucky with their draws.

People will also go "well just play stun/burn/control" but those are very gimmicky and often just can't function if the opponent goes first and sets up their board before you can do anything. If they have enough negates on the board, you probably can't break their board AND set up your side as well. Which means they'll just combo all over again, because most decks treat the graveyard as a second hand and they'll come right back on their turn.

well i hate to tell you that's just not true. You more than likely aren't at the point where tiers really matter that much anyway. Even master players are constantly misplaying because the average player level on master duel is so low.

not to mention a guy got 2nd a couple days ago at a tournament with plants of all things?

This month, on my climb to Master 1, I saw Utopia ftk bot in Master 2 rank, pretty cool for an "inconsistent deck that dies from the slightest interaction"

a good pilot on a rogue deck will beat a bad player on a meta deck usually. ESPECIALLY in this meta where interacting with your opponent is more than just "click yes to negate" and you actually have to use your interruptions well (at least more than usual)

Like in gold and plat where I am, because I just dont play much? Sometimes i see meta, but the people play so bad that you can just outplay them. They dont know what theyre doing past their combo line from youtube.

Im not saying toon will win, though. Tier 2 - rogue decks are just viable enough to at least get to master 5

I just came back to the game, but is it really worth it?

Yeah, anything post-Infernity is "modern" by the standards I use. It still depends; if you were complaining about anything back then, things haven't changed and never will (explaining is not condoning).

I am a returning player, and a lot of these decks, especially the meta decks, are new to me. Is there a place to learn how to counter decks, like snake eyes? I would love to know what cards I should be using my interruptions on...
