Kinda this. The whole gimmick is taken straight from Yugi, with real life adjustments. It's not perfect, but the whole theme of the deck is to basically draw any card you want, when you want it, so long as its loyal to the theme. If you're bricking, there is a definite ratio issue. Since everything is made to be searched, you probably don't need things as much as you have them. (although on that note, I've never stood by people who use less than 3 DMs, because frankly, I use all 3 of them for lots of things really fast, and I recycle slower than I can use them up)
Here's an idea, maybe don't play DM era trash?
Wdym Genex and Ally of Justice are the best archetypes ever made
And really? Genex? Name me one card without looking it up. And for AOJ, name me 2 without looking it up (we all know the first one).
Most people don't try it though because they forget that this isn't the tcg and Galaxy Tomahawk is legal.
Genex Controller
Ally of Justice Catastor and Ally of Justice Reverse Break
Don't forget the greatest Genex of all, Genex Ally Birdman. He was on the banlist...several times! For uh, reasons...
But Genex and AOJ still suck. HAHA made you read this!
In most decks, you want to stay away from anything that is too specific in how it works, or else it will often be a dead card in your hand. DM has a lot of cards like this. IMO Souls, Illusion of Chaos, Salvation(unless you'd rather run Secret Village of the Spellcasters or something else), Eternal Soul, Dark Magical Circle, and of course DM itself are the cards you should focus on. All the other main deck DM cards are ok at best. They can work well, but also tend to brick up your hand often.

Guardian Chimera's a good Fusion Monster to add as well, seeing as Secrets of Dark Magic is, afaik, the only non-Branded by Red quick-play spell that can summon him.
Another route to go with, Rank 7 monsters. Diablosis and Big Eye being a couple notable ones.
And if you wanna get a little tricky, pack a Virus card that can be used by tributing DM (Grinning Grave Virus is my preference, due to its "The effects of monsters destroyed by this cards effects cannot be activated that turn" effect) and respond to the activation with Eternal Soul's resurrection effect. (I call the move "Houdini Tribute")
