Let's Talk: "Fun" Decks
So, we've been seeing constant complaints about how "people don't play fun decks" or "people don't create original decks", etc etc ever since day one, but, there's a really big question mark hanging above the word "fun", what is a "fun" deck?

What if your idea of "fun deck" is totally the opposite of mine?

For example, I love Virtual Worlds and I'm legit sitting here money in hand waiting for Konami to release an official Nyannyan plushie, I like the deck's versatility, that I have a lot of different routes to a specific endboard, it's a really fun deck. I also love Sky Strikers, I like that grindy control playstyle they have along their gimmick of mainly controlling Raye.

But then we look at the forum, and gosh some of you guys are worse than a hipster who's soy latte and healing crystal were stolen on a day where the horoscope said it's gonna be a good day.

Are Dragonmaids a fun deck because on a good day they're meh or are they "unfun meta deck" because they special summon a lot?

Are Weather Painters a fun deck because their best is worse than even some table 500 decks, or are they "unfun meta deck" because they play a heavy control style with floodgates and such?

Are Solfachords a fun deck because they be just cute waifus with no endboards or are they "unfun meta deck" because it's a pendulum archetype?

Are Evil Twins a fun deck because they be just cute waifus with chibi vtuber personas or are they "unfun meta deck" because link spam? (Really Konami, give me cute chocolate waifu already)

In the end, there's no really "one definition to rule them all" for what makes a fun deck. One might say "a fun deck is a deck that allows the opponent to play", but then just changes the question to "what does "opponent gets to play" even mean? I played against a Thunder Dragon deck yesterday, he got to summon both Colossus and Titan in the same turn, only thing is that Essemblue Robin bounced them back one after the other (it's a Pure Bird deck, not a Tri-Bird deck), does that count as "playing"? He did get to summon his boss monsters afterall.

Anywya, I'd like to hear your opinions down below.

I find Steam forums hilarious. If people are complaining about something, someone has to complain about them, and then someone complains about that person. It's this endless cycle of people complaining and trying to get the last word in, all while arguing with each other about who complains the most.

Fun is subjective; that's my final answer.

All im sayin is that if you play drytron with heralds then i have some explicit words for you

Also its the consistency of meta decks that setup unbreakable boards turn 1, if you can setup an unbreakable board but its very inconsistent it's fairer then a deck like drytrons with can end on a full board with close to 100% consistency

Dragonmaids are pretty fun imo. I ended up with an almost full set of them after buying the secret pack they are in for other cards. So i tried em out and yeah, they are pretty fun.

Oh, you're that type of guy, fine fine, I'll get a Danger Dark World deck ready for you, 20 minutes turn. You're gonna have a blast.

Wdym, meta decks are fun because winning is fun in a competitive game.

What's the point to discuss on something subjective?

Some people feed off drama :)
I'm having fun when I have to carefully analize the situation and choose the best course of action. I don't like playing against decks that can negate my every move turn one. I play Weather Painters so it may seem a bit hypocritical (heavy control as you said), but I need a couple of turns to take full control, and you can slow me down when you destroy my spells and traps. Also, when they target my monster with their 4000 ATK boss and I get to gently return it to their hand... that feeling is just euphoric.

Playing against same 4 decks like 15 games and waiting 10 minutes per turn in a row isn't fun.
Not to mention being forced to play certain meta if you wanna win isn't fun either.
it's simple as that.
If you find it fun, good on you.
Good majority of people don't find it fun.

Boredom is one hell of a disease. Was watching discussions from Team APS and the guy mentioned how even if there was a tournament for fun decks, you can't define what a fun deck is because Yu-Gi-Oh players just can't agree on stuff.

Winning isn't fun

You're right, winning isn't fun, winning is extremely fun.

To respond to your "unique deck" stuff, that's just as subjective as "fun deck". Creativity is quite well and alive even when playing meta decks, assuming one is good enough to create their own deck.

Oh right, sorry, sorry, my bad, I forgot that quite a few people don't consider different ratios, techs, engines and such as "creative".

The reason why winning is fun for players who have the desire to actually get good, instead of being just a medium fish in a small pond, is because when playing against other good players, being able to consistently win show growth and improvement as a player. You won't win against actually good players by just copy paste a top deck because they already know that that deck is good and are actively working on strategies to beat it. Just doing copy pasta means you're always ten steps behind unless you're playing against some "I only play Dark Magician because meta decks suck" type of guy.

This reply just proves that it's a waste of time talking to you.

Think of it this way. If you were to win all the time, you'd have to be facing people worse than yourself. This would do nothing for you, as you would not improve in skill. Losing means playing against better players, but that's how you learn, by being challenged. Your long term goal should not be winning every game, it should be fixing mistakes and learning a little bit after every game. Once you forget about winning, you'll enjoy the game much more.

Well said.
