Honestly no, last time I played YGO the Hero cards weren't even a thing yet, so I've got practically no preference to any of the non-Fusion/Ritual gimmicks. Relinquished has cards with those, that was kind of cool I guess.
As an oldschool Chaos player coming into masterduel for me mean't grabbing my old chaos cards and anything else that supported this. My first Chaos supporting pick was Thunder Dragons and i am currently using them as part of my current chaos deck. My goal was Chaos so i went through a few things with light/dark monsters and found Lightsworn and Thunder Dragons to be the best so far.
My point is that what you go for has to do with what you like. So look for something you like the idea of and check around for cards that work with that idea. You will naturally find yourself wanting packs that help your deck if you do this. Its less about single archetypes and more about collecting a large number of cards which can work together. Your first pick being toons may have walled you in a bit and caused this lost feeling.
If you just want a decent archetype deck thats kinda fun on its own then i can definitely recommend Thunder Dragons. The bosses have destruction protections which means the meta DPE decks can't steamroll you and they have plenty of power to back it up. Just keep Colossus on the field and make sure to interrupt the enemy with Titan and your good.
But that would be part of the problem, considering I don't know what those engines would actually be. I know things like Infinite Incontinence and Ash Blossom are cards you absolutely want in every single deck, but I didn't know if it was more worth it to just craft those individually or summon them.
I mean, I like playing Yugioh, but at the same time when I lose in Ranked I don't really get anything for it like the pity pulls you get for winning, and it probably takes much longer to go through the Battle Pass thingy.
I did look around for things that I thought I liked. Harpies, Vennominaga, Ruin/Demise, Vampire, the OG Trio and Archfiend are all things I looked at. However, I doubt any of that works in a bunch of other decks. I'm guessing a lot of what works in other decks consists of Extra Deck shenanigans where my knowledge is sorely lacking.
I can definitely take a look at Thunder Dragons, though. I think I fought one of those in Ranked so I'm actually familiar with a handful of those cards existing. Thanks for the advice.
the new refined blade selection pack has swordsoul (a powerful meta deck), Destiny HERO - Destroyer Phoenix Enforcer (a part of a powerful engine that can be slapped into almost any deck), and lots of other good meta cards.
if you want to pull something for a specific deck a few pulls of the Tri-brigade secret pack is good, it's powerful support for any beast warrior, beast, or winged beast archetype and it can combo well with Harpies even if the two most popular combos are Zoodiacs and Lyriluscs. and if you want to play a super meta deck you can pretty cheaply swap out the harpies for zoodiacs.
I've been playing through Solo, that's actually where I got a couple of the pre-mades I got(Gem-Knights and Ruin/Demise being two).
Two mentions for 'Tri-Brigade', I think I've heard of them before. Don't they have like, a bird sniper card that's absolutely bonkers? If it pairs well with Harpies, I might actually give that a look. Thanks.
Edit: Ominumi says "grab 3 of every card". I know of the 3-card limit and the Restricted/Limited list and all of that, but do I really only need the 3 copies of a card, regardless of how many decks I wanna use said card in? Like, the game's smart enough to know I can only use one deck at a time and shuffles around accordingly?
