where can i play older versions of the game?
i honestly like Yugioh. downloaded it, played my simpleton toon deck, lost basically almost every match, because after 5 minutes it was my turn but the other guy did 20 fuses and played seemingly 20 other cards.

to me, this is yugioh 2024, a mashine assisted card game

great that some people like it!

i dont.

i would like to play basically Yugioh until the anime GX.

simple stuff. play a monster, a trap card, finish turn.

so my question is ... does something like "master duel" yugioh 2024 exist ... but with only cards from a certain age of yugioh?

i dont like these XYZ, Link, Pendel, Ash Blossoms, MacC.

some people like it great. i dont.

i would like to play a card game, that i could play LIVE

yugioh 2024, in my opinion, without konami steam engine that pre calculates everything, cannot be played LIVE in PERSON, UNLESS you are the most massive pro in existence.

im not a pro, never gonna be, just wanna have some fun, play CARD game, maybe even live.

is there an alternative version to "this game" but rolled back 15 years or so?

thanks

PS i dont mean to bash or offend anyone. you guys like this 2024 yugioh. great. play it. but i would like to play "this game" a bit simpler ....

It's fine to not enjoy the modern format. There are free alternatives that iirc you can find older formats with ygopro or dueling book. The latter where you manually input each card if I'm not mistaken. Good luck.

In the "Yugioh until the anime GX." era. The toons you want to play are even worse. You're experience isn't going to change much.

"Simple stuff" was pretty explosive back then as well. Even in GOAT you could die before you got to play a single card.

The game is able to be played currently by anyone. You don't need to be "Pro" at anything in this game to play it. I've witnessed children play this game in paper just fine at my locals.

The version of the game from 15 years ago was 2009. It had Synchro Monsters. Infernity and Blackwings. What you want is 2002 Yugi/Kaiba Format. 22 years ago.

I can recommend you play Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution. It's got all the anime jazz you could want and it could ease you into the modern card pool.

Like the first person said, duelingbook or ygopro. But also playing the old school Yu-Gi-Oh games like the ones that came before like 2012 is also a good option. They are porting a bunch of old school Yu-Gi-Oh games in the upcoming Yu-Gi-Oh early days collection game and they are adding features to these older games like online multiplayer.

Ay yo this is the first time I heard about this. Now this has value, thank you. Maybe this is why they've been twiddling their thumbs instead of actually making a format for old school players.

i think that collection are those games like Forbidden Memories and Dark Duel Stories where they were made trying to capitalize on the popularity of the anime before the card game had real rules yet. Maybe not exactly if they want to actually play yugioh. (they're still fun games, at least those 2)

Infernity was actually 2010 when I last looked it up, for what it's worth.

I feel ya, I use to play back in the Yugi/kiaba format, even still have my old cards that haven't left the binder in almost 20 years (most well played with so no hope of getting them graded except my jump Magicians Valkyria which has never left the binder but why bother), I get the itch to play the old format, I think I tried to get back into it with kiaba corp virtual duel system (kcvds for short)*, it didn't stick. Took me a while to come back around, got nostalgic looking through my binder.

So here I am now, when I started off I decided to try and learn newer mechanics, syncro was just starting to come out when I last physically played. So I started with that started deck, played through the tutorials earned gems and started getting other structure decks, I really feel in love with the pendulum summoning mechanic and starting building decks with it in MD, then I started to try and figure out link mechanics, wasn't too hard essentially it's the old tribute mechanics given a tune up and fresh paint job and some new mechanics. XYZ was another mechanic I picked up fairly easily, it's just syncro except you only need monsters of the same level (usually) to summon them.

From there it's just kinda snowballed for me, do I play meta decks, absolutely not, I play decks I find fun, combo decks, beef stick decks that can throw 10k plus attacks, gimmicky decks like dragonmaids, hell I'm even working on building a pure train deck where all the cards must be train themed in one way or another, it's been a blast relearning Yu-Gi-Oh. Do I get upset when I brick or lose, yeah obviously, but I keep on because it's still fun when, despite interruptions, I still manage to pull off what I was trying to do.

Also stick around, if I read the update notices right we're going to have a throw back event coming up soon. (Don't quote me on that I just skimmed the notice)

*Looked it up and that's what the program was called.

Probably because Infernity Launcher and Barrier came out in 2010. Archfiend and Necromancer came out in 2009.

I just put Jan.1 to Dec. 31 2009 in ygoprodeck's search engine and that's what stuck out to me.

yay, thats a very good sign. maybe they are testing the waters and are checking how high the interest is with this event.

so this is kinda a must. dont stop just because you got the stupid price. the real price might be an additional legacy format (and some useless duelpass points).

just so you dont have to look it up: OCG june 2014 is shaddolls before burning abyss and before nekroz.

sadly artifact scyth, sanctum and LADD are URs, caius, raiza and stormforth a SRs. so an anti-shaddoll deck is kinda expensive.

Welp it's been leaked (at least as far as we know) and it's all of the Gameboy games up until the GX era

Good thing I still got my old guide book for Dark Duel Stories. I'll need the codes for Yami and Shadi etc. duels. I doubt Konami will alter the roms to not needs codes and add them to the menus natively.

Gonna skip
Even if they remaster DotR, I've got like 3 maxed out deck leaders that I'm not gonna grind again

your big text

thanks for the reply. im still playing, my toons, diamond 3. it's all fine.
im also having great fun. still dont understand pendel XYZ or why that guy can OTK oneshot not my lifepoints, but my deck to 0 cards on turn 1.

i will stick around. games come naturally to me. im 11k dota2 ill get it done.
if i lose a bit more because im retarded and play only toons, that's on me. i get that.

i do see a problem with "long term playerbase".

does that make sense? i think the barriers to entry are too high for the average player.

maybe im just imagining things.

truth is ... i guess i should not care about that at the moment?
why do i care anyway?

but it just feels like it's all too ... "needlessly complex" right?

on the one hand, you have endless possibility and 1000 of decks you can play.
the reality is though, that in order to get diamond or win tournaments you play tenpai and some other plus 3 meta decks, so is it really complex or just perceived complexsion after all?

but i feel like my own thoughts regarding this game go in full circle mode. i don't have an answer to any of this.

i don't dislike this game. im still playing. and i should probably keep it at that and let konami, the responsible company, do the evaluation as to whether to make the game more simpler for beginners or not.

i feel ike "barriers to entry" right now are too high. but who am i?

thats the conclusion i came to. it doesn't make sense to think about this stuff really. im having a decent time playing, i enjoy it. thats about it. i will stay.

what use is there to think about "hey if it's not a card game anymore, but a engine card game, they could theoretically make it easier for noobs, and balance cards instead, since the original print of the card does not matter anymore, because 95% of the players of this game play online - and not live. not being able to play live anymore, and the game evolving into an online assisted engine game, is not only bad, but has advantages too"

you can ask yourself these questions, but honestly ♥♥♥♥ it ... why?

i like it. i play it. i see a devil somewhere, that may not even be real, may not a exist at all.

thanks for your reply.

you run into a toon player called karlakolumna you better surrender, because i will crush your tenpai deck and your kashtira deck, because you may have maths, but i got the heart of cards from 2004 you can't win my friend ;)
