They already have them as structure decks, this would just be the next step, pay 250 gems or something to have a prebuilt deck for a month, cards you can't swap & don't actually own but could see some play in gold/plat ranked, then doing a test run is fine, it should be cheaper than structure decks but not free & unlimited, it should really only exist so new players gain grind up so gems in gold rank, but I don't even think new player need that.

Most decks in ranked are so OP already even in Gold ranked these decks might just be there to lose as bots.

I mean, I'm not one to play ranked usually, but I want to max out my duel pass, so I've started ranking a little. In Silver, I kid you not, I ran into 3 snake-eye/rescue ace decks, like completely kitted out. So you don't have to even be gold.

Simply a rotation of 3 loaner deck each week

The only thing bad about it is how the decks are built. Even the illegal second extrav in the eldlich deck isn't enough to make it better than the average platinum build. Otherwise, giving new players competent pre-built decks or giving experienced players a free way to try a deck they don't own is a great move
I genuinely cannot think of a single negative to there being loaner decks for ladder.

if you weren't aware it's because they're card-for-card taken from the OCG's tactical try decks, including the ban lists - hence why the Live Twin Spright has no Elf

the point is for them to be good enough to make players want to play more and build the better version of the deck, if Konami makes them TOO good there's no point in buying the cards
Just end trashbag. May 23, 2024 @ 11:27pm
With swordsoul do even better job than loaner i dont think its a mistake. I dont know if it even help new player honestly.

New players get enough gems very quickly to make a better deck if they want. So its not an issue. This just means if they do worse than the loaner making a deck they can fall back on it instead of being bad at the game while they farm for gems.

Also it lets people try archetypes they can purchase later. So I think its good.

the only bad things about them doing this is them making the eldlich deck illegal, technically and they are only temporary. Other than that, I can't really see why you'd think this is a bad thing. Ease of entry is something yugioh as a whole needs to work on and Konami probably acknowledges that by even adding these.

I think it helps give new players a much better idea on how the game works now as opposed to like 2002 yugioh. I think Live is the best example of the three, but they all include functional strategies that you frequently see with other decks. Link climbing is probably my favorite of these since it's pretty universal.

I think they should make them better I mean at least give them a full extra deck its a nice idea but in its current state I think its poorly executed

It's fine in theory. The fact that one of them openly violates the banlist but is still legal is the problem.

What are you realistically gonna do with the second Extrav in that loaner? Draw 1/go neutral in card advantage?

It's not about drawing both, it's about the consistency of drawing one. But mainly it sets a bad precedent. You're right that it doesn't do *much*, specially on that deck, but what if they just keep going with multiple copies of stronger limited cards? Or banned cards?
