Your anime deck!
I don't remember if I made this discussion or if someone else has but let's have one near the start of the new year. If you were to be one of the many duelists in the anime, what would be your main deck? It doesn't have to be a meta deck, doesn't have to even be strong, heck; it doesn't even have to exist (we had someone in the anime use a deck revolve around playing darts for crying out loud)! What kind of playstyle, strategy and/or aesthetic you would bring to the table?

For me, when I was chillin out with my friends in the schoolyard, my favorite card at the time was Familiar-Possessed - Eria and by extension Gagagigo. I always loved Gagagigo's design and backstory to the point where some odd years ago I built a water reptile strategy revolved around him on the GX Duel Academy game and back in the early days of duel links I was able to use Mokuba's Monster Morph Evolution skill to turn Gagagigo into Giga gagagigo to somewhat make what I would use in a jank deck that worked a tiny bit. If I could I'd retrain the Gagagigo cards into some kind of Zoodiac, Sky striker, LV, Dream Mirror abomination of an archetype based on his lore.

What about you guys? And for bonus points what era would you see yourself and your deck be in the spotlight? I know it's not inherently master duel, we'll just say its a discussion on decks we would like to make in the game

I think a base rule should be made to where the deck has to only use summoning mechanics available in the respective era of the anime, such as:

DM/GX - only Fusion for extra deck, Ritual for main deck
5D's - only Synchro and Fusion for ED, Ritual for MD.
Zexal - only XYZ and Fusion for ED, Ritual for MD
Arc V - everything except Links
Vrains - anything goes

Makes it a bit more balanced.

Now, if I were a character in the anime, I'd probably play a deck I enjoy for those summoning mechanics:

DM/GX - Tearlaments
5D's - Centurion
Zexal - Lyrilusc
Arc V - Virtual World
Vrains - Sky Striker or Marincess

Honestly, I really love mikanko. I think a pure version of it without kaijus is...probably not broken? It would technically qualify for DM/GX era, but I feel like that'd be little unfair, I'd have to play it in Vrains I think, although I'd prefer to play in Zexal/ArcV probably

if we're going by Era specifically
DM/GX: Like I said, Mikanko qualifies here, its just mean so probably Crystal Beasts
5D's: Definitely fortune ladies (with the synchro, because they deserved one!!)
Zexal: Think I can safely put mikanko here
Arc V: I'd still play Mikanko here
Vrains: Aromage/Rikka. This is the only era where they could play to full potential, though I always thought Aromage is a strong contender for alternate deck for Akiza

Technically Mikanko fits in all eras since it's a "ritual" deck, so if you really want to, you could play it in any era.
HERO is the only way :cleanseal:

Either that or Traptrix

I said that, but anything prior to at least zexal feels kinda unfair :P they'd OTK everyone in a single turn baring some really bad bricking. At least everything 5Ds+ has hand traps (like Veiler, not like Gorz/Kuriboh)

My Zexal mental-fanfiction OC's main deck: Dogmatika (with a side of Bystial)

I always love Kurosaki Shun, imagine the Raidraptors have all the current full support in the anime.

It's funny, I had an idea for a 5Ds OC. He's primarily a scholar of the game's occult roots (see: basically everything that happened in the DM era), and uses the cards because they're more portable than the stone tablets his predecessors would have had to lug around rather than ever really dueling. He mostly just used spells directly like Yami Bakura feeding a guy to Man-Eater Bug, and then long after I came up with him Runick happened and I was like "holy crap this is perfect it doesn't even use post-5Ds mechanics".

He wasn't really meant to be a self-insert beyond being old enough to remember when Duel Monsters first released, but he's still tangentially relevant to the conversation.

It would be Chaos. The question is really just which Era and which Chaos deck I would be running. If I evolved with the game I would probably start out with the envoys and end up on Chaos Synchro because that's what happened to me IRL.

I would probably show up throughout the series and do things like try to get my hands on that busted chaos card from the GX anime. Like some kinda forbidden duelist.

definitely toons

DM/GX - Nouvelles: I don't think Nouvelles would be fair in this era. Almost every effect targets and trying to beat over them isn't a good idea. Also Hungry Hamburger will be considered a threat in the era it was released in.

5D's - Dark World: Just throw in dark resonator and dark tinker along with some generic Synchro monsters.

Zexal - Ninja or Nouvelles: Just not a fan of XYZ summon.

Arc V - Cyber Dragon/Cyber Dark: Cyber Dragon Infinity and Cyber Dark End are going to be hard to out. Also, something about dimension hopping students whom mainly summon machine monsters.

Vrains - D-Link Dragon Maids variant: No one has time to wait 5 min for a full D-Link play, Dragon Maid variant is simpler and quick to play out.

Jaden's Elemental Heroes or Zane's Cyber Dragon deck, thats where YGO peaked for me.

Here, this is a pretty solid "anime" deck, it feels perfect for any era, and while a little bit strong early in DM, its fairly balanced regardless of era:

edit: since I already had that, I thought this would be pretty simple to just do as well. I feel like this is still OP, but it's not completely as one-sided as the normal way I'd make it:

^too bad no Arahime or Spiritwalk Q_Q

DM: I play Dark Magician & Harpie's. Even have a Budget DM build on Master Duel.

GX: Volcanics. Always wanted to play Amazoness. Never have gotten around to it.

5D's: Blackwing's, still play them even on Master Duel, one of my best decks. Also played some of the older Junk and Synchron stuff. Don't like it or Junk Speeder. Love Stardust Dragon though. I miss him.

Zexal: Galaxy-Eyes. Got a budget build out of those structure decks. Don't play it often though as 2 of it's best cards r SR and not in the structure. Have also played Utopia, but didn't like it that much.

Arc V: Raidraptors, Phantom Knights, Speedroids(not much though) & Pendulum Magicians. Also got a deck of Magicians on MD from the structure deck. Probably my strongest deck, since I never built any of the newer Meta decks. Just too expensive.

Vrains: Code Talkers & Salamangreat. Got both built on MD. I rarely play Talkers and Salad's lacks a boss monster since the new Pyro Phoenix isnt here yet, and Prom Princess isn't quite strong enough on her own. And Heatsoul just don't cut it in 2024.

I have played other decks of course, but not from the anime & many of the others like Tearlaments, Vanquish & Kashtira aren't from the anime.

Okay, real talk. Why is all the best Amazoness support stuck in master pack but you still NEED a bunch of support from the amazoness pack? Can't they consolidate it yet? Amazoness deck is really expensive to make for a T3 at best deck
