why do you need to download twice

so i download YGO Master Duel, play the tutorial, only to get blasted with 7+ GB in-game update. why can't this update be part of the steam download?

The first download is bait. Obviously you are going to wait for the second download cause you already want to play the full game

Most cross-platform games do this nowadays. What you download on steam is the base game/launcher, and once you launch the game for the first time it downloads the real updates. I don't know why they do it like this, on consoles there's at least a reason that they have to because there is a thorough vetting process to push out updates which takes time and resources. As far as I'm aware, steam is much more lenient with allowing through various updates and hotfixes, so there shouldn't be much of a reason they can't have the current version of the game ready as a steam download

The reason is Konami is too busy thinking about how many URs to add in the new pack mixed with old URs from Secret Packs. It is a little annoying, especially when you just get on ready to duel but suddenly there is a small update. Thankfully once you download the game proper, the updates are fairly small afterwards

it's because it's also a mobile game. that's standard practice for them. even Star Rail which had a pc/mobile launch simultaneously required downloading the game from the title screen

I haven't considered this, but this is actually a really good point.
