I assume it's because Ash is negating the search, not the fusion summon itself, so it's still able to negate. You'd think they would have made it so opp couldn't play anything in response to cards that fusion summon, rather than simply stating they cannot negate the fusion summon if they wanted it to be stronger.

Branded Lost is a great card though?

In older branded decks it was sometimes cut because it was "win more" and only really mattered in the mirror match, but nowadays there are combo lines that specifically need branded lost.

you gotta keep an eye for effect negate and activation negate, like a baronne cannot negate for example, because lost protects from activation negates. Sometimes if activation is negated instead of effect you can actually attempt to activate again the same card depending on the wording of that card.

I agree Branded Lost can be good as long is you know how to use it. The protection for fusion activations from negated is probably the worst effect. The prevention of your opponent responding to fusion summons and the ability to add (likely Mercourier) are probably the main reason to run it.
