How we know what is meta in master duel?
Hello, this is something I see some people talking from time to time so i just want to ask today, how do we actually know what is meta in Master duel? I am not really into the community beyond was in convenient but I do know there are some big streamers who make tournaments and I think most of the meta list are taken from those (if I am correct), but those events dont use the bo3 format so those could technically not be a good representation of the real meta of master duel with its bo1 format? or I am wrong with this?

go into rank, play 10 games, note the match ups. If you ran into any deck more than 3 times, its a meta deck. If none of the decks made it to that, then you probably still need to climb the ladder.

It's all somewhat subjective because we don't get any official data other than the in-game statistics on card usage, but those aren't really accurate to archetype due to how cards are used (i.e fenrir being in 54% or whatever of decks doesn't mean we are in a tier 0 kashtira format). The closest we get to real data are tournaments hosted by dkayed and mbt where people compete for prizing, which at least gives us a reasonable assumption to being representative of the format. Both have some display of their top cut that they release once every few weeks.

But yeah, these aren't 100% accurate and only vague indicators of the format. You'd have to keep in mind that what is meta, the strongest possible deck in the format, isn't necessarily what you will see most often on ranked ladder. As silly as it may sound, that's more casual than an organized tournament with rewards better than your daily 150 gems. Even in master, you won't always run into people playing what they think is the best deck in the format. You will have people playing decks to get challenges done, or to try out a new deck, or just trying to have fun with something they like. Like right now, objectively the best decks based on tournament data would be dragon link or cyberse.mathmech, maybe lab or runick stun depending on the matchups. But you may be seeing much more kashtira or mikanko on ladder instead

One is most popular decks, why do I bring up popularity? cause most people want to win, and they will win by copying the best decks available, and if a bunch of people are copying the same deck than thats also the most popular deck.

Now you might be thinking, well this deck can beat that popular deck, and thats not the point because not everything will win 100% of the time, but winning 51% of the time is still better than 49% of the time and in the case of meta decks that percentage is even higher.

Meta Decks are simply the most consistent, reliable, and often most powerful decks in any given format. The reason why they aren't always the most powerful is because technically there are other decks that can theoretically do more, but lack consistency and counterplay. People will see these decks perform well consistently, so they copy the deck. The best of these decks are considered the "Meta" and are separated into Tiers based on a combination of public opinion and win/loss data. Because of the fluid nature of the Meta, things fall out out of favor quickly, but that doesn't mean the deck is suddenly bad, but rather it got hit in a banlist update to be less consistent/powerful, or a better set of cards had come along. The only time a Meta deck can go to straight up bad is if the Banlist went turbo hard on a specific deck and just brutalized it. So the easiest way to check what is Meta, is to simply observe what other people are playing at higher tiers of play, or to use sites like Master Duel Meta to acquire some samples of what the current format is like.

TL;DR go into rank and play some duels and count how many times you run into certain decks. Most frequent ones are meta (yes, that includes those stupid self FTK decks).

MasterDuelMeta website.
They control the reddit and they host a lot of tournaments. They make their own statistics using their and other people's tournament results. You can love dkayed the owner or hate him but his site is pretty reliable. Even has data miners and actual job positions going on in there since Duel Links.

Exactly, that's why simply looking at what you run into a lot isn't enough. Dark magician is everywhere too, definitely not a meta deck lol.
