What you really wanna do is specify a specific set or year, and blanket-ban everything released after that. Just saying "Fusions and rituals only!" completely ignores the fact that those cards have advanced over the years as well.
2004 wcs had chaos battle royal starting from semi final.
"Invasion of chaos " has yugi on the cover.
Edison is popular enough in the West to see play, but WorldWide? I doubt there's enough interest to attract Konami's attention.
Go to a Simulator if you want other formats.
Why not you host a event and have monetary prize top up for people who participate?
That's not actually true, what you mean to say is "You don't want them", a lot of older YGO players do what something like that, hence why Duel Links was popular when the game first came out and only Fusion/Ritual was available and there was no extra deck.
A lot of people are tired of the "Win-Win" or "No-Cost" effects of Modern YGO. That's the general problem from post 2010's card design.
Now you may feel that is "old" and "outdated" but that does not stop a significant amount of players wanting to engage with that version of the game as opposed to the broken modern version.
This game is not League or Fornite, it should not have to pander to Gen Z to stay relevant and other formats would be appreciated.
Every modern card has compensation effects to stop the Gen Z toddlers from whining or crying when their "Big, Bad, Monster" with 5000 effects dies. It just shows the difference in attitude between veteran players and Gen Z players. The fact Konami needs to compensate you for having a disadvantage is indicative of your generation as a whole.
I can hear the comments from the "teal-haired because my mother needs to pay attention to me" now... "But cards like Monster Reborn don't have downsides"... Yes... that is true but Monster Reborn did not have so many overpowered targets back in those days because there were not that many broken cards and you used to have the time needed to set up cards like Solemn Warning to prevent the summon.
Boss monsters used to mean something, rather then just being meaningless stepping stones to an overpowered card that was designed purely to sell well hence having a modern overbearing or ridiculous effect.
As for alternate formats, I'd love it if they made it so every weekend we had a draft format based on custom banlists/older formats. 500 gems to enter. You get 200 random cards pulled from a pack made for the draft. None of these cards can be broken down, nor do any pull in alternate finishes. 100 gems per win. 10 per loss(surrender doesn't count). Capped at 1k gems over 48 hours. Just a fun thing where people can screw around with whatever they pull, and only need to chase 10 wins over the weekend for full rewards.
are we talking about Pokemon or something? xD
even game like hearthstone that is digital only exclusive have more formats than this game, they added recently twist that is rotating format and you can use only cards from selected few expansions and released new cards dedicated to this format. i dont play it personally since i play wild mostly and im not interested in ongoing sets in it, but is really nice addition to the game.
