Hand traps
I love hands traps don't get me wrong here. But let's get like 6 months where they are all banned. I am just tired of seeing them to be honest lol. any other card with a play rate as high as them woulda been banned years ago

Sure, let's make the game even more heavily in favor of going first...

Hell no.

What do you consider an unhealthy play rate? Afaik most card games have staples that are basically an auto-include in any deck except a few specific ones that can't run it. And if we factor out the maxx "C" package that the competitive community is heavily opposed to, the highest played cards would be something like imperm instead of that ridiculous 93% play rate on the roach

Remove handtraps and boardwipes or un-negatable removal like Super Poly and Kaijus take their place. Collectively, they are the tools needed to be able to participate in the modern game at all, let alone stand a chance of winning against decks that are designed specifically to shut down the opponent's avenues of play. Such cards are needed because of the laundry-list of effects modern cards are printed with that enable them to generate advantage in some form regardless of what's done to them, and that nothing has a tangible cost or restriction to it's use anymore. The most you have are annoying roadblocks on generic cards like Pot of Extravagance preventing you from drawing for the turn. Very few cards actually cost you advantage in any way, and those cards aren't played because they're "Bad". Which is to say, not broken and OP.

I understand being sick of seeing the Ghost girls all the time, for example. I'd rather we don't have to rely on overpowered tools to deal with overpowered threats myself. But no one type of card is at fault for the way YGO's turned out, it's the whole collective that's been printed for several years now.

When powercreep in YGH is this high now, handtraps and board breakers is now necessary to have, if you want to win. For myself I now got Nibiru in my decks to make it easier for myself to do something on my turn without I have to play through 5 interactions I cant deal with, with my currect hand.

When you play againts a deck that you know is just going to play yu-gi-no tactic againts you then you are forced to play something that deals with it.

Hand traps are good, fun, and necessary. The problem is how generic they are. Hand traps should be archetype based only.

Example: "If your opponent adds a card from their main deck to their hand: you can discard this card and reveal one other -archetype card-; your opponent shuffles one random card from their hand back into the deck"

What if maxx C could only draw at most 5 cards? Give it a tiny nerf? any thoughts

Drawing cards has now become OP, just draw a single powerful card and the situation is reversed, so no, Maxx c must be banned and that's it.

Drawing 5 cards still usually wins you the game on the spot in a competent deck. There are dozens of ideas to make the card more balanced, but in its current state it either gets banned (like in TCG) or stays legal and warps the entire game around itself (like in MD and OCG)

Alot of people has tried to create new ideas to how you could make Max C more balanced but all of them are bad or would not work.

LIke fx someone said Max C should only be allowed to activated on opponents turn.
Or you only get to draw for every 3 special summon.

+1, there's nothing to be said about Maxx C that hasn't been said hundreds of times before. Mentioning the cockroach in the room is basically just goading for a fight anymore.
I dunno, I like handtraps.

Also, I totally don't play pure Live Twins with 14+ handtraps in my deck.

I'm indifferent to hand traps personally, I just wish some of them had a little more restriction as to when they are able to be used.
