These are some good ideas, but they are ignoring the actual best card in the archetype: Spright Elf. If you want the deck weakened, limit or ban the card. This will cut its recursive ability and consistency considerably, while still keeping it viable.
Limiting the field spell to one kills Runick as an archetype. That is a little bit of a far cry from "weaken."
Also killing floodgates does absolutely nothing. Spright Runick is far and away the best version. They have no reason to run Floodgates outside of Gigantic Spright (a technical "floodgate" since it locks both opponents into Lvl 2 monsters for the turn).
Then Spright need nerfs aswell but how I have no clue since I dont play it.
Basically I am just not sure if it matters how consistent they are when they don't do much. Maybe I am just used to stronger boards and plays. Spright feels like swordsoul. They always do what they do but its not enough to make them scary unless you are playing jank.
Consistency is a strong point of a deck but I don't think being consistent alone merits any hits. Perhaps I just haven't had a proper match or perhaps my most common cards are too suited for it in general.
So while I could understand some limits I am unsure if its really that good.
I know some sections of the TCG were really ragging on it. but banning Union Carrier and Toad went a really long way.
Take a look at the Master Circuit tournaments. Spright is *present*, but it isn't topping super crazy. This is even with a side deck, and from what I can see, players aren't really running a lot of targeted Spright hate.
It's a fantastic deck, but there are plenty of others, especially after the Ishizu cards arrived, which can keep up with it.
Make all runick-cards to 1... yeah everyone of them... And then it might be a balanced deck...
Or is it mainly just the tools that Spright uses to reach those points?
Or [a combination of] both?
IMO, it seems like all meta decks are extremely consistent, especially ones that rely more heavily on the ED. In general, I believe that's a factor that contributes to duels lacking player interaction and ending within 3 turns.
You could argue the other way around why you should punish ALL Floodgame-Decks cause they make runick so strong? Honestly this is bias.
Btw, i dont play runnik my self, in fact i hate it to play against them, but do punish every other deck around a floodgate cause runiks are messed up... yeah... NO!
As a Branded degenerate, this simply isn't true. Spright has recursion for sure, but they still lose out on consistency and big beaters to Branded. And now with the Ishizu cards, the resource game is a lot more in the Fusion deck's favor.
Swordsoul I would say has definitely slowly been creeped out of the meta though, even with BDF. That midrange deck has suffered.
The problem with these floodgates has nothing to do with Runick. Before Runick it was 10 other decks and it was never good for the game.
These floodgates have always been an issue that needs solving. Runick is just a deck of the month or year. After Runick another Stun deck will run all the strongest floodgates and it will be exactly the same.
