-You cannot activate this during the Damage Step.
ATK/DEF altering Quick-Play/Trap effects for M/T cards and Quick Effects for monsters
Counter Traps
Effects that specifically state they can be activated in the damage step (if the effect says "damage calculation" that's fine as well, as that's within the damage step)
Now I do have two new questions, Firstly, I didn't get why this cannot be activated in the damage step? Assault Wyvern's card text says simply 'tribute this and special summon that'. After all that is a special summon, what makes it different tho?
Secondly, Why is this counts as happening in the damage step? Isn't the damage step ended after he attacking my monster and killing it? So, isn't this supposed to happen in battle step but not the damage step?
1) cards can't be activated in the damage step with a few exceptions, like negations, ATK/DEF modifiers and attacking-related cards.
2) Damage Step ends after the destroyed monster is send to the graveyard and all the possible effects were activated
In line with Spek's reply, Bottomless does not negate an effect, change atk/def values directly or have a clause stating that it can activate during damage step.
As to why this happens in damage step, Assault Wyvern's effect will activate and resolve during the end of Damage Step, during which the monster it battled will be sent to the GY.
Per Konami's official breakdown of the ever-complex damage step, under "Key Phrases that can Happen Now" for End of the Damage Step:
"effects that activate 'when a monster destroys an opponent's monster by battle and sends it to the Graveyard'"

Maybe this Wiki article about Damage Step[yugipedia.com] can help you. It has the effects and cards you can activate. Michizure is a drunk move by konami, that was pretty broken in Speed Duel tournaments lol
