I get why they do it the way they do, but I think it would probably be better for consumers (not for konami's side, which is the part they care about), would be fine to keep the "Secret packs" but allow users to unlock them for a sorta price. Like you can basically figure out what a gem conversion by rarity would be (I'm too lazy to do it myself atm), but once you figure that out, just make that a "down payment" to unlock the pack.
Edit: just to clarify, I am thinking its fine for the 24 hour access thing, but the crafting to get to them is harsh, especially as this game goes on in the future, that's too steep. If they make it have gem access always, at least then people won't ruin collections trying to unlock a new set or series.
I hate to say it, but if you wanna stay exclusively F2P, you WILL have to start disassembling some of the SRs and URs. Duel Links lets you pull from the specific pack you want, and it's taken me a whole year of playing over there to get a majority of the good staples I have. I got practically everything I wanted within the first few days on Master Duel with careful planning.
Dusting your collection definitely runs counter to my "hoard all of the Mega Elixers to the end" mentality I usually have, but it's not gonna work here. I... sort of think it's for the best - if you're the sort to have good patience and planning.
....but never forget for a second, F2P games PREY on your impatience. Konami is purposely digging at you on a psychological level, wanting you to try and hoard everything to get you to spend more. Sadly the only way around it i to grab Link Evolution for $16 while it's on sale, or move to a private app.
