Why do destroyed pendulum monsters go into the extra deck?
I haven't watched the yugioh show that introduced those cards so I'm not that familiar with them. Why do they go into the extra deck and why do they still go there even when the extra deck is past the max number of cards your allowed to put in there?

Because Konami said so.

Because Pendulum were a mistake.

The simple answer: Because that's the rule they were designed for.

Realistic Answer: To facilitate recursion with the pendulum mechanic and also to limit graveyard cycling abuse with pendulum summons, as you only get 1 pendulum summon a turn.
PEND BEST DECK

Why are you a human?

So they can be summoned from Extra Deck as Extra Deck monsters.

And ironically the only mechanic they had to go and retcon how it works, after it was made.

wrong. they retconned how everything worked with the introduction of links but pendulum are the only one that kept the change. doesn't change the fact that the rest of the mechanics were all changed as well. though pendulum is the only one that received two changes. [other change being pend zone->s/t far left/right]

Links were supposed to slow down the game so yes they hit all extra deck types. Then they added links that sped it up again and it became pointless. But pendulums would have been OP again if the restriction was removed from them.

Because it's written in the rulebook.

Because the rules say so.

Also, the maximum only matters for Deck Construction, not actual gameplay.

(You don't lose the instant your Deck goes below 40 cards, after all.)

I would sooner believe it was solely to push Links in the first place and to discourage Decks from using other Summon methods rather than the notion of slowing down the game.

It seems really weird at first, but after a while you get used to it.

My theory is that it's just a convenient place to put the cards to use their special mechanic. If they just went to the graveyard afterall, that would probably lead to a lot of pointless arguments and confusion and since pendulum monsters are the only monsters that can pendulum summon, it's a lot easier to tell what's eligible if they get sent to a different location than the rest of the monsters

They could have made another seperate pile, but that would add to the clutter of the field and would also cause confusion most likely. Since the extra deck is never flipped face up (to my knowledge though there may be 1 random card that does this that i've never heard of), it's quite easy to tell which monsters can be pendulum summoned.

Kinda repeated myself towards the end, but hopefully that's clear. I could be wrong about this but I think it makes a lot of sense

Because that just is how they are, and the extra deck doesn't have a limit, it's just that you can only start with up to 15, pendulums are free to go over that if they get destroyed.

its literally their mechanic, they explained that to you in the tutorial
