Playernumbers concerning
Game bled half its initial playerbase. The event helped for like 2 days. WHile 70K aint that bad its still declining. This is especially concerning since most of the playerbase is from japan, I guess in the west its way less. Guess this is another failure by konami?

Near the end of a monthly season, the mobile version shifted some players(especially the japanese cause mobile far more convenient). Considering thats 70k only reported on steam, thats still good it kept that many players compared to the other card games on steam.

Every game has an initial spike and then settles to a core audience.

Players do not want to play the same OTK/FTK meta decks again and again since cannot build more competitive decks because of expensive gems.
Casual players left the game as the game only focus on rank duels with no other modes.
Those new or returnee players do not want to play non interactive game style when opponent summon all his deck in turn one and negate every card.

It is sad to see player number declining, but maybe next season will increase. Still, there is a hope.
The 2nd most played card game on steam has only 8k concurrent players.

I'll let you do the math from there if it's really "concerning" or not that Master Duel is "only" at 70k

Why are people pretending that the launch week hype was the game's normal player count?

Because lunch week hype is when a lot of new players are introduced to the game. After that if the game did not attract new players then it is considered as a failure. Simply a lot of players left the game because it did not attract them for long. This is something Konami should concern about.

Then nearly every game is a failure. Barring a few exceptions like no man's sky or CS:GO, most games have their highest ever player count on launch week and then it dwindles down until it reaches its regular amount a few weeks later. This is a normal phenomenon that I thought everybody already knew about. Using that to say the game is dying or whatever is really grasping at straws. It's unrealistic to think every casual player who tries the game is going to keep playing it lmao

People came back for nostalgia, realized what an unhealthy state the game is and moved on to good games (like Elden Ring)

Do not forget that Master Duel is free to play, means there are a lot of people not paying anything. For your example, no man sky is not free to play, means they already got a lot of money on lunch. For master duels, a lot of players quitting because of ridiculously expensive gems even they are competitive players.

Yup!

It's actually kind of sad , this game looks and plays like an Early access game from 10 years ago and even for a card game it looks very generic , dull, and boring.

The shop feels like something they mashed together in one week, the few cosmetics look terrible.

And the worst thing is there is basicily no progression , sure you get a bunch of gems at the start but after that , if you want to test out a new deck you have to make a new account every single time . There is no point in grinding, it takes too long.

And of course the unhealthy state of the game isn't going to help.

Or ya know, not every game needs to have hundreds of thousands of players to be considered successful.

Card games are a niche genre, just like fighting games.

GG Strive is considerd quite successful and it barely has around 5k concurrent players. Tekken 7 is the most played fighting gamr on Steam and it has only 5k players.

The 2nd most played card game on Steam has 10 times less players than Master Duel.

Master Duel having over 70k on Steam alone, as it's cross platform afterall, is pretty successful.

I see that the starting week is no baseline but the event didnt help at all. People came back for exactly one day. Seems like the general intrest is there (else people wouldnt bother with the event at all), konami is just too bad to handle the community. Kinda sad

This is such genuine cope
You heard the guys above folks, if a game can't surpass Lost Ark's launch day stats for months on end, it's a failure.
