Why do I auto surrender if I step away for 2 seconds before my draw phase?
With how ridiculously long players turns get it's incredibly stupid that if I get up to piss while my opponent summons his 20th monster, take maybe at most a minute to drain the snake and I return to see that I surrendered because for whatever reason the amount of time you spend on your draw phase before surrendering is like 30 seconds. I've went to the john before during a duel to drop a deuce and take my sweet time when I come back my opponent is only halfway through his turn.

Because your opponent, even tho his turn takes a bunch of time, he's actively playing.

You're just AFK.

You can make whatever excuses you want. You scoop because you're a cry baby. I'm out here in plat 1 with just BEWD and you don't see me crying about how other people's decs are better do you?

Some decks need to special summon 200 times to get to the point, it's how they work, and Konami can't penalize you just for having a certain playstyle.

You were maliciously sucking the opponent's time by being AFK.

If it takes you more than 30 seconds to draw for turn, you either went AFK to do deal with something very urgent or you're stalling for time, either way there's no reason to continue the duel.

Please you and your opponent should just report each other for being slow play and toxic.

el oh el, you're crazy. Guess going to pee in the middle of some guys 200 summon chain is considered toxic now. In all fairness, you never know when the opponent is gonna end their turn. Wear diapers from now, am I rite?

Handtraps exist for a reason, if you really hate combo decks just use a control deck like eldlich

Just don't join a duel if you're about to pee yourself and go to the bathroom instead and join the duel after you went to the bathroom?

A round IRL is 40 minutes (and many competitive players would like longer rounds because that would disincentivise stalling for time), and you can't leave the table once it starts. Do people just pee in their pants? No, also because you get a game loss if you do (section J https://img.yugioh-card.com/ygo_cms/ygo/all/uploads/KDE-E_TCG_Tournament_Policy_2_1.pdf ), they go to the bathroom between rounds.

A round IRL...

I agree but this isn't real life. We're all at home, or even at work with distractions all around us.

Calling it malicious is extreme exaggeration.

I don't know about you but I don't always have a handtrap when I need it.

False

I went a f k one time (I needed the bathroom), and my opponent had to wait for like 400 seconds there. This only happens during draw phase, maybe (maybe?) main phase 1.

This game is ldiotic

Agreed, its stupid that the 480 seconds is a lie when in reality, its 30 seconds, is so missleadingly stupid.

It's not malicious, but it's also pretty easy to use common sense to know if you have time for a pee break.

If you see the start of a common long combo deck and you *don't* have any handtraps/interrupts, you shouldn't be timing out because you stepped away for less than a minute.

If you have a card that's going to potentially have an opportunity to activate, don't walk away.

Easy answer, if you want to walk away to the bathroom or anywhere else, load it up on mobile. You can link your account so you can bring your phone with you. I have a mindless deck that is easy to play on mobile, if I'm going to step away or not give the game my full attention, playing that deck on mobile is an easy way to avoid time-out forfeits.

Why don't you just use the bathroom before getting into a duel?

This is the only real answer applicable to the question. This is a video game, you don't know what your opponent is doing and they don't know what you're doing. Nobody can cater to your every need unless they force webcams and a detailed explanation of your medical history, home situation, and anything else that could affect your ability to continue playing a duel. It's also a best of one format where duels rarely go above 8 minutes. And yet it's still a ranked competitive mode where there should be and are penalties for not playing competitively, i.e stalling or griefing.

If you know you're going to need to step away from the computer for any reason in the next 10 minutes, don't queue up for a ranked match. If something unexpected happens that is important enough to drop the game, clearly this duel doesn't matter enough to care whether you get an auto surrender or not. If it's not important or pressing, wait the 2-8 minutes for the duel to finish. It really isn't that complicated tbh

How shocking. I wonder why that could possibly have happened?
