SPOILER: Need help understanding small detail after completion
How was Gen able to hear AIba in the alternate Mizuki END? Was it because the man in the suit is Date the whole time, and Gen only shows up after the SAT surrounds the restaurant? Having trouble wrapping my head around this one, so I might be confusing details ontop of my initial confusion.

Yes, the "Gen" that is with you initially is actually Date, since he still had the neural link that connected him with Aiba and the ABIS communication channel then he was able to hear the thoughts and dialogues in between Mizuki and Aiba. The real Gen only shows up after that street brawl begins.

I recall Date saying that he has been watching Mizuki from Gen's suit for several days. Are there any investigation days that have Date in the costume, or is that all off screen?

Almost every day that you meet Gen in the present it is actually Date, this is especially evident from how awkwardly he answers questions about spending time by the warehouses and has to be told that he wrote the song for Amame.

Does this mean date is the one who told lien to open the freezer?

Yep, there would be no reason for Gen to want Lien to open the freezer after all, he would already know the body was there, having stored it there personally.

Why did Date have Lien open the freezer? He was surprised to see the body. Ain't it weird to just randomly break into a friends freezer

Date was investigating the case and overheard many conversations at Brahmen, and also had many conversations with Mizuki, some of those conversations made him very suspicious of Amame and Gen so he opened the freezer. You can go back through some of those sections from the flowchart to see what tipped him off.

As far as I know, there are only two sections where we interact with Date in Gen's costume.
The first is when Ryuki visits Brahman after he psyncs with Tokiko. The second is during the Amame/Gen's ending. Every other interactions with Gen, is the real Gen.

As for the reason why he decided to check the freezer, he only says "I had a hunch".

In chapter 1 Mizuki hears "Gen" tell the tale of someone who will vanish when the king awakens, in other words it's Date all but saying that he's there undercover. In chapter 2 "Gen" tells Ryuki that it could be someone wearing the same suit. In chapter 3 you run in to the actual Gen and even wink psynch with him, this is the only time you do so. In chapter 4 "Gen" doesn't seem very concerned that Amame is acting strange, but this is the day that he gets Lien to open the freezer, so Date would have been suspicious.

In other words, you should take Gen at his word that you only interacted with him on one single day, why would you even doubt him about that?

These are good points. Gen says it was him on the 13th. and it seemed genuine.
I honestly find the indications in Chapter 1 and Chapter 4 (main route) to be a little weak.
In Chapter 1, He expresses his hate towards Ota, which is a very Gen thing to do.
In Chapter 4, the real Gen already knows that Amame is not feeling well (13th), and the guy at Brahman (I guess it's date) asks Ryuki why is he looking for Amame, which is again a question that can be mistaken for concern, which is a very Gen thing to ask.

So yes, you are right. No reason to doubt Gen, I just feel like the main characters interactions with "Gen" on those two days are very natural. Hell, I would go as far to say that whether it was Gen or Date on those two days, I wouldn't feel my perception of the story would collapse.

Conversations and debates such as this thread speak volumes to how great of a game NI is

The Gen in chapter one is the one most transparently not actually Gen, he's unsure of every answer he gives you about his opinions and actions (Quizzes, warehouse district, etc), except for hating Ota, Gen himself doesn't hate Ota, Date does. Gen says that Ota is like a rusting misused kitchen knife, hinting that he respects him but laments that he doesn't but the effort in to really polish his skills, something that is backed up by Gen's somnium where it is clear that Ota is not portrayed in a negative light. Date, however, hates Ota and doesn't clearly remember the Ota ending to the first game either, so they don't really have any real understanding between them.
In chapter four we barely talk to him, but we know for a fact that it's Date, since that's the day that he gets Lien to open the freezer.

Gen most definitely hates Ota. It's even listed under his Dislikes in his profile.

Edit: Also the Gen that's unsure about the quizzes / warehouse is from Chapter 2.

If Mizuki only interacts with fake Gen then why would the profile page reflect the real Gen's feelings? Weak argument
