The story description didnt say anything about him being dead/missing which was my first gues.
As aiba is an AI.. it is definetly possible to clone the device. Maybe Mizuki and Date can always communicate through aiba as both have her AI built in (be it contact lenses or eye socket)
She can be a good detective if she has AIBA to help her for the job. Plus, there's no indication that she's at a crime scene, and even if she was, she could be waiting for someone?
Not necessarily on the assumption that its housed bodies again, but to have a better understanding of the type of environment one would need to do so.
I wouldn't be surprised if Mizuki was volunteering to have an eyeball removal surgery in order to install Aiba and become a special agent, especially under the implications the ABIS had done surgeries on subjects who were put on the prototype Psync Machine in the past.
