I am quite a bit older than that, and its not just age.
Difficulty is a weird thing, but without a difficulty adjustment this is going to flop hard
Ninja Gaiden and Nioh games have always had a difficulty curve. It's more about learning enemy patterns.
I mean I put about a 1000 hours into Nioh 2, so it might be a bit easier than someone new walking into it. But again, Team Ninja have a bunch of titles behind them to prove your statement wrong.
Also this is a demo, so continual adjustments are going to be made to the game.
1- Those games are basicly " real-time strategy" or "enviromental puzzles". You are not supossed to jump into a mob and expect too get out alive.
The player needs to read the layout , know the enemies , wich ones to approach first , lure them one by one and take time . Its a game of patience
2- You dont need to fight every enemy on the way . Sneaking by , or even rushing to the next Bonfire/Checkpoint avoiding all the enemies is valid .It may sounds contraditory with having patience , but its really not. You need to know when to be petient and tackle enemies and when you have a breach to run and avoid them .
3 - Knowing to manage your XP ( being it Souls, Anrita , Blood Echoes, or whatever the game calls it ) . Normally you lose all your xp if you die a second time while trying to retrieve it . So , keep an eye on how much it's needed for the next level , farm enemies closer to a checkpoint , go level up and spend it , and just then proceeds on your way . After realizing that i never lost big amounts of XP ever again on any Souls -Like game .
4 - Get sometime to know the basics of the game's mechanics . Equipaments , itens , Stats , builds , weight and emcumbrance , etc. It may seems a little too much at first , but reading or watching short guides on google can give you an idea on how to proceed .
And remember, those games give us infinity tries , they arent like old school games with limited lives and this kind of BS .
Elden Ring and MHW sold 5x to10x what previous titles sold because they went for an easier market.
I mean sure it might get DS numbers, maybe, but its never going to get ER or MHW numbers with difficulty at this level
Then again neither did Stranger of Paradise(also team ninja, and I absolutely adored) which has both easier difficulty and backed by Final Fantasy so I could be wrong. But it could be hurt significantly by having been locked on the Epic store... so who knows.
I have played souls games, Im in the middle of playing Steelrising at the moment, but I have enjoyed greatly Strangers of Paradise and Jedi Fallen order, souls on the easy side so to speak.
This one is way harder than Sekiro or Bloodborne, nevermind Elden Ring.
Im sure the hardest of the hardcore is going to absolutely adore this, but the casual crowd is going to bow out fast.
What is hard? Is it a particular enemy? You haven't really explain what you have found hard in the game?
Trust me when I say it took me a bit to figure out the mechanics. The deflecting mechanic is something I am 50/50 on. I feel like I am rolling dice when I do a counter on a red attack. Like with the big fat turkey boss. Sorry I forget it's name. I almost nailed the timing to dodge to deflect his red lightning attack to send it back flying to him.
The whole leveling menu or UI was a bit confusing to me. You have water fire earth. At first I wasn't really sure what stats I was leveling. I am so used to leveling stats like int, str, end etc.
parry timing is the major issue, IM rather old and my reflexes are shot and the timings for deflects and parries in minuscule short.
Im also really really not a big fan of the "Let me just get a carry" mechanic of soulslikes.
I dont think it's harder than Sekiro . The only thing harder than my 6 straight hours figthing Isshin Sowrd Saint is playing old schools plataformers xD .
But, i was watching a friend play the demo yesterday and he was being destroyed. I thinkthe thing is really adapting to the combat .
At the begning of any new game its aways like this, even going back to games you are already used to play .
I think its another aspect of the genere that demands patience , just getting used to the combat.
So , fiding a checkpoint near an enemy and just training there, getting used to the block, parrying , dodge , stamina menagement and your weapon particularities is onother key to make those games easier .
I totally get it. Sometimes I can't fathom why I do the same exact move to parry but I miss. So I can see them adjusting their timing window a bit.
Also make sure you drink a gallon of coffee lol No don't do that, might give you a cardiac arrest. (drum roll please)
Ive given up on it, I found out how to give the feedback without completing the demo and I did so..
If they dont add a better difficulty adjustment for release, Ill probably just pass on it, which is a shame since I absolutely loved Strangers of Paradise.
its also annoying as heck as every damn upcoming ARPG is a damn soulslike!
It could be worse, they could be all Rogue-likes
I personally cant stand procuderally-generated-permadeath games anymore .
Fair point, I guess Ill just hope someoen does an easy mod for it.
I mean I feel like I got a choice of non souls Rpgs this year of Hogwarts, Hogwarts or Hogwarts.
