In SoP you do have many classes to pick from though; but I feel like I only played a few that I liked. So maybe if you're more into experimenting SoP will do it for you.
End game combat I prefer Wo Long for sure. Guess it depends if you're into all the NG+/++/etc stuff.
Hope that helps.
seriously, I think this is the best work made by Koei.
Nioh and nioh-like aged pretty much like milk; this one prolly 's gonna be eternal.
If you like this one, there's way more after: Lies of P, Sekiro, THE FIRST BERSERKER (try the 2h demo if you want, game's crazy)
I think Wo Long has more fun gameplay and better enemies.
Wo Long has probably the best feeling combat out of all of the Nioh-likes. The fights are fun, parrying feels great. But I think it starts to get stale past a certain point as there isn't nearly as many options to approach combat with. But I didn't get the DLC so I can't speak to how that changes it.
Stranger of Paradise is the game you want if your way into aRPG-like character progression, with a way bigger focus on gear systems, character builds,...etc (its actually staggering how much depth this game has). Strangers of Paradise is very much the more indepth of the 2 and its RPG/gear systems beat Nioh 2s big time imo.
With Strangers of Paradise I would stick with the base game FIRST as its DLCs are mostly endgame focsued (with new weapons/classes). So if you end up not liking gridning your characters jobs and upgrading your gear level, you may noteven have the patience to get to the DLC. Still the classes/weapon types add alot to the game so its up to you.
Wo Long is the more action focused game that still has RPG systems, gear/loot, and crasy build potential, BUT its much more digestable, and its way more of a chill time, especially once you get the deflect system down.
With Wo Long I 100% recommend to get ALL DLCs as imo the game feels not as good without them. The 3 new weapon types are excellent (fists, Long sword, whip) they add TONS of new spell to find and build around, they add tons of new allies/sets to get,...etc and the extra missions/bosses are the best of the game imo
I say get both or if you want something more recent look into Rise of the Ronin coming out early march, which will be closer to a open world Nioh like game with focus on historical accuracy then demons.
Depends on what you want. Wo Long has a full character creator and Stranger does not. But I think Rise of the Ronin will probably scratch your itch more. Or you could get all of them to support Koei Tecmo
Nioh 2 is still good but I think I'll stop playing Wo Long and Nioh 2 once I get into Ronin
This is possibility but remember Rise of the Ronin is an open world game, and not as bite sized as jumping in a mission grinding for a few hours and stopping. So the 2 are not really comparable like that.
The mission structure of Nioh 2 and Wo Long offer much more customizability and replayability then an open world game, but thats just my opinion. I'm very much looking forward to Rise but open world games usually don't get as much play time out of me because of how long they are and how much more time long term you have to invest in them.
The open world is why I am excited. Whenever I play Elden Ring or a game like AC Valhalla I wish I could run around as my characters that I create in Team Ninja games. Now I can finally do that. While Ronin is open world I heard that a lot of missions are actually linear just like Wo Long and Nioh. You load into a mission and choose companions to help you.
I think the key is just take your time and explore, find near gear, and customize your character and level up your abilities. I plan to take as long as possible to beat the game. One thing they added that is nice is that you can run into other peoples protagonists in the open world and fight them. It's similar to Nioh's graves but they are roaming around the world.
I'm looking forward to a open world Team Ninja game as well (most anticipated game this year) but my point still stands that a mission based design (or maps) adds much more longevity to Action RPGs that focus on builds, playstyles,...etc because of how bite size it is compared to exploring a huge open world many times.
I have as much time in Nioh, Wo Long, and Strangers, because I have created like 4-5 brand new characters from scratch to make new builds. Open world games are usually so long that making a new character/build is just too time consuming.
For example I have 2 playthroughs in ER and that got me to about 300hrs, I have about 5-6 characters in nioh 2 because of how quick it is to progress through the difficulties.
