1. Nioh 2
2. Strangers of Paradise
3. Wo Long
4. Nioh 1
Its not for everyone, but at the end of the day what game is?
Boss designs are light years ahead of Nioh 2.
It has the best magic system I've seen in an action game, period. I've seen people complaining that you can't do combos like I Nioh, it's too simple blablabla. Combos are done with the magic system. It's not like Nioh or Souls game were magic is an accessory you can ignore. Magic here is fully part of the fighting system and it's very well done. That's actually something I kind of ignore in BG cause it's easy.
The game is a lot less reliant on gears/build than Nioh. You can get away with the worst build possible and that's a good thing. It's less a Diablo like than Nioh.
They nerfed the game unfortunatly. parry is now way easier.
To me it's the only viable competitor to Sekiro.
Light build is the only way, the true way xD
I'm sorry but how can you even say that with a straight face?
all you have to do is deflect the bosses attacks to make the guard break gauge fill up then do a devastating attack. do that 4 or 5 times and the boss is dead. that's pretty much every boss fight in the game.
you don't even have to move to do that so things like positioning around the battlefield and stuff don't matter.
not exactly very thrilling boss fights...
and I'm hardly the only person who noticed this because Steam Charts clearly show that Nioh 2 has 4 to 5 times as many players as Wo Long does, even though Nioh 2 is older.
you're entitled to your opinion, of course, but active player numbers don't lie.
Maybe in NG.
In higher difficulty you actually have to learn their pattern as you can't get away with a random parries and easy breaks. You'll get toast.
They nerfed the game now so you have to get to NG++ or even NG+++ for an interesting challenge. Let see if Zhang Liao for exemple feels easy when he can pretty much ruin you with 2 hits and you need to break him 20 times. Oh and bosses get new moves and behave differently in higher difficulties. They can be quite a bit more aggressive. There's also the case for some of the DLC bosses.
Nioh 2 is dumb easy in NG too. It's just a button masher on the 1st playthrough.
It something true with many games in the genre. You can't really judge how good the bosses are in Dark Souls or Elden Ring unless you play at level 1. These game let you roll over them in a normal play and you can get away playing like an idiot.
Edit: I just looked at your profile. It appears you didn't go much further than Liu Bei. Fair enough, that's not super far from the end but 60 hours to get there isn't exactly an easy ride.
I did.
I have 60 hours in Wo Long.
my profile is set to public so it should show up there.
either way, it doesn't change what i said earlier:
there are many more people actively playing the older Nioh 2 than there are people actively playing Wo Long.
you can attribute that to a "skill issue" if you wish but considering that Nioh 2 is also a souls like with a very hard difficulty, such a claim would feel very disingenuous at best.
by the way, I also have
1300 hours in Nioh 1
1200 hours in Elden Ring
1100 hours in Dark Souls 3
750 hours in Nioh 2
260 hours in Sekiro Shadows Die Twice
280 hours in Lords of the Fallen (2023)
210 hours in Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order
105 hours in Star Wars Jedi Survivor
and some 300-400 hours split between Dark Souls 1 and Dark Souls 2
just felt like mentioning that.
You profile doesn't show any achievement past Liu Bei. it's not very far from the end but I wonder how you got to Ng+ without completing the game.
I never claimed to have reached new game plus nor finished the game so I have no idea why you would think that.
All I said is that I poured 60 hours into this game and I did.
I didn't find the game engaging or compelling enough to finish it.
I recently played a little bit more, I wanted to test out the new longsword that came with the latest DLC, and while I had some fun with it... I don't think I'm gonna put that many more hours into the game.
not when I could just as easily play Elden Ring or Nioh 2 instead which I enjoy a whole lot more.
I'm not the only person who feels that way
I'm checking steamcharts.com right
at the time of me writing this, there are
92 current players for Wo Long
875 current players for Nioh 2
244 current players for Nioh
that pretty much says it all
the playerbase has spoken
19.044 current players for Elden Ring by the way (at the time of me writing this)
You answered to a post I deleted after a minute. Look up. I just got confused with your answer.
Current player is irrelevant.
Wo Long crashed in large part due to it's poor tech performances and when a game get under, it stay there. It's poor rating (mostly tech) doesn't help too.
Wo long isn't finished too, unlike Nioh 2. I've seen quite a few players waiting for DLC 3 to get back to it.
Nonsense. At this point in time we've had several examples who launched with poor tech performance and then ended up bouncing back. Cyberpunk 2077 is probably the most high profile example for that.
that's because technical issues can be fixed so if there is any genuine interest from players, they will return once they learn that these tech issues have been fixed.
I'm skeptical about the whole DLC 3 thing as well because... well, if the players are actually interested, why aren't they playing right now? there's plenty of game including 2 DLC's, so plenty of content, to have fun with while waiting for DLC 3 to arrive because DLC 3 is not going to fundamentally change the core gameplay. it's probably going to add another new weapon type, some new armors and maybe a handful of missions with bosses but that's going to be it.
that's not going to motivate players who didn't like Wo Long's core gameplay as much to return to playing more of the game.
you have to keep in mind, the primary reason why most players left isn't a skill issue or poor tech performance or the difficulty
its the core gameplay
The worst part with Rise of the Ronin is that unless you have a PS5 your out of luck for getting it for the PC. I really dislike companies that jump from exclusive to exclusive especially when their PC fan base has grown so much over the years.
Nioh 2 was HUGE on PC and knowing PC users may not get the next team ninja game until 2-3 years after the console release, SUCKS!
Cyberpunk was playable at launch. The game was a mess but a good part of it were quest bugs and stuffs.
When I bought Wo Long I could't even play it. Kept crashing. I gave it a negative review.
I only started playing it after getting a new PC and as far as I know the tech issues are not solved for everyone.
Waiting in between DLC is pretty annoying to be honest. Each time I have to relearn the game. It's not a bad idea to wait for the whole package. You can move very quickly between all the NG. Nioh 2 was released on Steam with all DLC in a very polished version thanks to the delay vs the console release.
If you haven't even touched the higher difficulties and the DLCs, chances are your understanding of the game is pretty shallow. The same way Nioh 2 is very easy and just a button masher on NG and turn more into a Diablo like than a mechanically deep game after that. Beside 60 hours to get to Liu Bei isn't really a steam roll. Look like you struggled.
last time I checked half of the bad review were tech related.
Most of the rest were people complaining it wasn't Nioh (a fact) or people finding the game too hard.
Last, and I think it closes the argument, just look at the rating on PS5. It's pretty good cause no tech issue there.
Almost 80% are 4/5 stars or better
It's the same trend with Amazon and other sellers of physical copies
