First Bosses in TN Games
Which first boss in Team Ninja's Nioh and Wo Long games gave you the most grief and you prefer to fight again?

For me, it was Onryoki as Nioh was my first venture into this game genre - thought t'was going to be like Witcher 3 lol Took me almost 2 consecutive days before I finally beat him coz I didn't know can summon another player for help.

Nioh 2 - Mezuki

Zhang Liang in Wo Long doesn't allow you to recruit another player to help but it's interesting to note he's a human rather than a demon first boss. I know there are no demons in Romance of the Three Kingdom but TN has included them in the game which I like coz not many games expect you to fight a combo of human and monster bosses.

The other difference between Nioh and Wo Long first bosses is I prefer the intro's in Nioh - sort of sets the scene for the boss fights. Ofc Zhang Liang being a human boss, he brags about himself :steammocking:

Last by not least, I believe TN games' first bosses are all designed to teach players how to use the game's combat system optimally.

With Onryoki, players are taught to dodge and hit bosses from behind.

Mezuki teaches players how to use the new Burst Counter move.

Zhang Liang teaches players how to deflect and critical hit bosses, and Wo Long demo allows players to try before you buy. I may get flame for this but players who whinge about difficulty of deflecting bosses critical hits, think about Sekiro - that's how the game's combat system works. You can't say it's bad design and say the developers didn't test or play themselves.

I believe Wo Long's combat system is watered down from the 2 Niohs, but it still offers more variety of weapons, armor and builds than any other game of the same genre.

The most difficult first boss in any Team Ninja game is actually in Ninja Gaiden for Xbox, that boss was brutal.

Yeah Onryoki had me for longer than I'd like to admit,it was great to see him in Nioh 2 but sad to see how easy he went down.

Zhang Liang was the hardest for me. I actually first tried both of the Nioh bosses.

Zhang Liang took me like 6 or 8 tries can't remember

But I prefer the Nioh 2 boss

In Wo Long, the one that gave me the most grief is Liubei.... those balls.... just no. Quick over head slash? Ouch. Dual swords combo into tail sweep or double stabs? Pain. A zoner too? **screeching noises**
The most fun i had is against Zhang Liao. His character is so cool, his fighting style is so cool, his fight is so cool. He is cool.

In Nioh 2? I don't know which boss i want to be fighting again, but i remember the one i will not fight again. Firestucking Katsuie. I had a 5 hours long nightmarish experience with that guy. I will never stop cursing his name.

It's funny that people remember Onryoki as Nioh's first boss.

Katsuie aint got nothing on hayabusa... Whether is it the hayabusa from nioh 1 or 2. If there's a nioh 3, hope he doesn't appear. Controller shelf life got halved because of him.

That guy is also very hard especially on higher diffculty, but i got intense PTSD with Katsuie.

Honestly I don't remember getting stuck at Onyroki or Mezuki. I beat them in a couple of tries. Wo Long first boss actually felt like a wall. But then I didn't know you could kill him instantly @ half HP by activating guardian spirit.

Mezuki gave me the most grief by far. Onryoki does not count as it is later boss (2nd?).

Zhang Liang is still bigger difficulty spike compared to content you have to get through to fight him. Wo Long's introduction mission is very easy bar the tiger fight, who is intentionally very high moral, and should be avoided initially. The boss represent such a massive change in pace-he is very aggressive-and need to deflect multiple attacks in a row.

While Mezuki took me longer to kill and forced me to rage quit few times, I still hated Zhang Liang more because it has become clear at this point Wo Long is a bastard of a game and Sekiro style deflecting will be crucial part of the game. I hated the game at that point a lot.

Put yourself next to a wall. Run up it, jump off, do a plunging attack and repeat.

If he gets in on you, block, roll into a jump, and go to the wall on the other side of the room, and repeat the same process.

It's ridiculouslyneasy to win this way.
Murai was HELL to fight, and I remember it took me at least 50 tries to finally beat Onryoki.
So it´s between those two, I guess.
Mezuki and Zhang Liang are nice bosses, but they weren´t hard to beat

Onryoki was the first boss that people fight, because (IIRC) he was the boss in the alpha and betas.
