however, the gameplay, especially bosses seems to be centered around parry mechanics. so if you avoided sekiro because of that, you should avoid this game as well.
I think I'll pass, because it feels too much of one button gameplay for me
I think nioh 2 was a masterpiece. but this game, I don't know, I don't feel its ideas.
Have you played Nioh 2? if not, go play that instead. Its better imho.
If you have played Nioh 2, then you can play this game.
First boss is the most difficult one, but thats because there is a trick to beating him and you have to get used to the controls. After that, the game is not that hard.
There are a lot of different weapons, but i just stuck to the dual swords i got 6 hours in, and just upgraded them. You can add all the atributes you want to them, so there is not reason to pick other weapons if you like the martial arts. The same for armor, you can go for set bonusses or something but its not really needed.
There is not a lot of enemy variety, most of the time youre fighting corpes, mages, soldiers and big guys with big weapons. After a while, you can easily dispatch of them. There is an annoying morale system, but it basically makes you mozey across the map, clearing little areas to increase your morale, which makes you do more damage and take less damage. At the end of the stage there is always a boss fight, and that boss has 20 morale most of the time ( depending on the stage ). having more than 20 morale ( by killing enemies ) makes the boss easier to fight, having less makes it harder because it will cost you more time to kill him.
The story is meh, its a spin on the 3 kingdoms, were some old wizard dude is the source of all problems, but its okayish.
But the game is fun. The combat is fun, not as smooth as nioh 2 with the combos, but i never felt like i was struggling, so for me it was to easy. And its not like i'm gods gift to gamers, when it comes down to it you win most boss battles by just taking your time and getting the deflect/parry timing right.
I played with keyboard and mouse, there was a panning issue but theyve fixed that. There was a flickering issue, but it seems like theyve fixed that also. I havent crashed once in my entire 44 hours of playing the game.
Mutliplayer connection can be ♥♥♥♥ though, but that depends on who you join apparantly and you can change the distance to only join people near you instead of across the globe.
So is this game worth it? Sure, its fun! Its not the greatest game ever, and theres plenty i dont like about it, but at the end of the day i did have a fun time playing it and helping random people fight lu bu.
But if you haven't played nioh 2 yet, then you should go play that instead. Or maybe play this ( because its easier ), and then go nioh 2.
As someone who completed both sekiro and nioh 2. i look VERY forward to this experience. Much appreciated everyone!
I played the game for 30 hours at the time of writing this comment
I'm thoroughly disappointed
its a downgrade in every regard
there's a severe lack in enemy variety.
weapons have very limited movesets and special moves are determined by RNG and can't be customized.
combat is exclusively build around a worse version of the Sekiro combat system, so its all about deflecting enemies and that is all you need to do to win.
all weapons feel the same because of their limited movesets and since you'll be deflecting most of the time anyways, your weapon of choice does not matter, except maybe for aesthetics.
there is magic but the number of spells is very limited and they are not as effective as deflecting and fatal striking enemies.
loot is boring and pointless, I already talked about the issue with the weapons and the same is applied for armors as well because it doesn't matter what type of armor you wear since, again, you'll be spending most of your combat time deflecting enemy attacks rather dodging or rolling to evade them.
there is a jump function but its pointless in combat since there is no way to use it in combat like you can in Sekiro.
there is no stealth system either, you can "sneak" by slowly walking up from behind an enemy or jumping onto them but there is no proper sneak system like there is in Sekiro... at least Nioh allowed you to use items that could make you invisible and soundless for a limited time for some type of sneak system but Wo Long does not have that.
my advice?
save your money and play Nioh or Nioh 2 instead. they are superior in every respect except maybe the graphics.
