I'd advise getting gear with the luck stat cause it helps a lot. If you need a +1 to help you get started I wouldn't mind helping out.
There are side missions to do as you go through it.
Then the "real" meat of the game comes in the New Game+ cycles.
It's mission based with 1 hub area. You pick stages from an overworld map (just a menu).
That 50h includes every flag and exploring almost every nook and cranny of every main and sub mission, and a few hours of coop. That said, I play at a very fast pace. I don't stay around staring at walls or anything. I always keep moving and aggressively attacking and pushing, and the only boss I was stuck in for any amount of time was Lu Bu, which maybe took me 1h of deaths until I got him. And there's the side mission Three Tigers or something with the 3 super cheap NPC's you fight at the same time, another hour or 2 probably went there. Every other boss basically usually went with the first try, sometimes 2:nd or 3:rd. I also didn't spend even a second crafting or anything, just got me Hong Jing's set since it seemed the most mage-like, and then upgraded that through to ng+.
So these people who say the game is only 14h long *really* had to rush through the main missions and do nothing but the bare minimum.
