Can't defeat Zhang Jiao

i'm on the fifth boss and getting farmed by him.....
any tips? i deal almost no damage to him

Normal hit damage is pretty trash. Try exhausting his spirit bar instead and then use takedowns on him.

Also, you can deflect anything, even magic. Maybe that helps.

Yes. but the biggest exhausts come from deflecting his red attacks, that's how you deal the biggest amount of posture. Using your spirit ''heavy'' attack also does more than regular attacks.

AFAIK deflecting reduces his max spirit which indirectly makes it easier to break his spirit, yes. You'll still need to hit/damage him to lower his spirit enough to break it.

Adding to this, basically use normal atks to build your spirit, then cash out that extra spirit through hitting him with spirit atks at the end of normal atk strings or after deflecting a red atk which he didn't follow up.
