Team Ninja > From Software in terms of gameplay
This is a fact and if you disagree you are factually wrong. Bring on 2023's GOTY.

How does TN and FS have gameplay? They are companies? Unless you mean to work at in which case they are both japanese so i imagine they both crunch the hell out of their developers.

Haven’t seen greatswords in first nioh

honestly, after getting as addicted as I did to nioh 2, I think I agree with this. Everything about that game was great. So much customization and the action gameplay felt more fast paced and satisfying at times.
The first made Ninja Gaiden, the other Ninja Blade, so that's settles it.
KOEI TECMO is behind this game? Yeah avoiding this unoptimized crap that will come out.

Wild Hearts says hello, go look at that performance but somehow they'll have perfect for this game 😂

Combat is obviously superior in Nioh/Nioh 2. Of course level design as everyone knows goes to Fromsoft.

That said, given the performance we saw from Team Ninja with Strangers of Paradise...it waits to be seen how this game will compare.

agree

I love them both equally for different reasons.
I play FromSoftware games for the world and atmosphere.
And I play Team Ninja games for the action\combat.
All is balanced in the world.

Combat in Nioh games is more fine tuned than FS games. In FS games you just swing regular attack or strong attack and dodge and block. Team ninja incorporated a lot of special moves and combos.

World: FS
Combat: TN
Atmosphere: Tie (because it depends on what you like because they both have great mood and music.

Wild Hearts is published by EA and they are the ones who most likely forced the devs to release it before it was ready.

Edit: There will also be a demo for this game next week so you can test the performance before you buy.

Wild Hearts is being published by EA though. They are both Koei Tecmo but that game is not a Team Ninja game. It is Omega Force, which is a separate division of Koei Tecmo. They have the same assets and game engine to work from I guess but its a different developer working on it. Omega Force is known for Dynasty Warriors, Samurai Warriors (that sort of game). Team Ninja is known for games like Ninja Gaiden and Nioh series, and the Dead or Alive franchise.

Also when did Koei Tecmo have a track record for unoptomized games? This isn't an open world next gen scam looking game. It looks like they chose a graphics setting that looks like it will run well. We'll see though. I could be wrong. It just doesn't look graphically demanding.

Nioh games are uncontested in how sublime their combat is! It spoiled me on Fromsoft games and many others. Nothing beats the combos, weapons, skills, that you can customize and change during combat, all with stance switching and ki pulsing. It's amazing and engaging! Fromsoft games just suck to play and that's further evidenced by their atrocious, forever unbalanced, pvp.

The core combat design design of enemies and bosses of Elden Ring was just broken and you can see the cracks start in Dark Souls 3 due to Bloodborne's faster pace. They really screwed it up and killed many people's interest in future titles. Art, sure, they looked good, but to fight them? The majority sucked.

Team Ninja does BOTH! They have cool legendary and interesting creatures too! They understand pacing and escalation. I just wish they used music more often. Nioh has a very underrated soundtrack.

Having a demo is a long lost good trend so I'm very glad Team Ninja still do them like a responsible and well meaning developer.

Fromsoft has always been B-level work at best. It's just gaming standards have fallen so low and great marketing has convinced people Souls games are better than they are. I like them well enough too, but all the ridiculous fans soured me on them over time.

Fromsoft is good at spectacle but that wears off quickly and they are also overrated until Elden Ring. Those environments were pretty great. Look at a beautiful painting long enough and it starts to blur and you are left with what truly matters: gameplay. That's what you interact with every second. If that's not good, than no matter what your game looks like, it will fail and suck.

Open world is also misguided and super overrated. No one should ever do those again. So much wasted time and space and useless vendor trash items to trick the player into thinking they aren't wasting their time. If your movement isn't good, it's also boring and tedious to explore. Elden Ring was honestly a bit boring to traverse despite the fascinating environments. Not enough of those spirit springs at the very least. If it didn't have co-op summoning (I liked to help in dungeons) to break up the monotony, it would have been even worse.

People forget how annoying the interconnectedness was in Dark Souls 1. It was horrible to run everywhere so slowly and because it was obscure, you did a lot of backtracking until you learned or watched a guide, all on top of the risk of permanent soul loss due to trial and error surprises like a trap you couldn't know was there. Not fun nor skillful. And don't get me started on Blighttown. DS2 did it better with bonfire teleport from the beginning and it's blighttown was the only one not horrendous. DS3 also had a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ blighttown (swamp). I'd rather have quality of life than some weird attempt at worldbuilding and immersion because again, that spectacle only works once before it becomes a chore when it's not done well.

However, the mountain level we've seen does seem boring in Wo Long. I don't like that.

A Nioh fault was too many enemies waiting around corners though. Although Elden Ring pushed it to high levels as well.

Nioh 1 was amazing. It had tons of interesting levels and variety! Breaking out of an English prison. Washing up in a new land and fighting your way through bandits to a fancy home on a hill to discover your first Yokai! A rainy courtyard that leads into a golden underground tomb! You look at faux-Tachibana's graphics and expressions in the boss cutscene and tell me that Nioh doesn't look incredible.

The mine wasn't great but the boss was a neat change of pace. The sea level was a cool concept but annoying to traverse for sure.

The spider castle was cool! The snow level was stunning! And the history behind it was so well done! That had wonderful atmosphere! Rainy ascension to fight your cat friend! Again, the music! A ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ NINJA MANSION!!! Tell me levels don't get better than that! TWO Sekigahara's! A human one then a demon one! That was so good!

Azuchi Castle was great with the music and ninja buddies really raising the excitement and pacing. And the boss battles leading up to Yamata no Orochi were fantastic (Nobunaga and Kelly). And then the twist of going back to England and you couldn't summon! Nioh 1 was beautiful and fun and interesting! You also knew when you were done and wouldn't get anxiety from fear of missing something. You also didn't have to constantly check an edge to fall onto like souls games. That ♥♥♥♥'s boring and sucks. The platforming was always the worst aspects of Soul game environments. Fromsoft art direction is very good, but their level design is about the same.

Nioh 2 had incredible variety as well, but some levels were less memorable. And it was disappointing to encounter their rehashed versions of Nioh 1 levels like their dual "Seikigahara" and their "Azuchi castle". Fire Honouji (vs Nioh 1's Ice Honouji) gets a pass because it was part of the narrative.

I will also say thought that the Nioh DLCs mostly sucked for both games aside from the added Guardian Spirits and weapons and some cameos.

I gave DS a try back then, terrible port like ugh, Sekiro 2 tries, was just a parry sim, Elden Ring three tries, didnt like it. Maybe will give FS a shot when I have more time to spare and less of a backlog,

But Nioh and TN combat is just the best in the genre hands down, loved it instantly. Im more focused on what I can do and less what the enemy does and learning its animations and do dodge and roll till i die. My main issue with soulslikes when compared to hack/slash, but Nioh doesnt do that, at least that much. TN for the win for me by a long shot
