Triangle + Circle if you are using controller, It shows during the fight on the left of your screen

First time through the demo I didn't know this either so I just beat the boss down to 0 hp. Turns out you can skip like 90% of the second phase because you're scripted to win after parrying his charge attack twice.

x+a or y+b, you have two different ones. One is for putting the power into your weapon, other is for releasing your guardian spirit.
Haven't tried it yet though
