Fatal D3D error (24)
Game keeps crashing at every so often with this error message. This would occur in the demo as well.

Can happen anywhere at any point, might be because of microstutters every so often.

Operating System
Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
CPU
Intel Core i7 @ 4.00GHz
RAM
32.0GB
Motherboard
MSI Z170A GAMING M7 (MS-7976) (U3E1)
Graphics
SAMSUNG (1920x1080@144Hz)
2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 Ti (MSI)
2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 Ti (MSI)
SLI Enabled

In-Game Graphic config.ini

Verifying the game files did not solve the issue.
Will provide any other information if needed. Please fix this soon, I dread the possibility having the game crash on me after a long hunt.

I am also using a 980Ti. technically it is not supported for this game.

Here's the fixes that worked for me, not sure which one did it:
1. For your antivirus, whitelist the steam folder that the game is in
2. Go to windows graphics settings, browse for the monster hunter exe and add it. Then set preference to "High performance"

good luck

Using 980Ti (EVGA SC)

My solution was to disable high-resolution textures

It appears VRAM collection seems unstable and takes a long time to clean up.
I'll go from 3.5GB to 4.3GB VRAM after a hunt and messing with my settings.
The VRAM won't free much, so I suggest always restart after making changes.

Added my steam folder to windows defender as a whitelisted entry and set windows graphics for Rise to high, played for 2+ hours so far and haven't seen a crash. Will try the other suggested comment below if I do run into a crash again but it seems to work fine so far, thanks.
Edit: Forgot to add this but I also moved my game from my external SSD to my HDD. Didn't realize I had it saved on that storage device at first.

I want to do more testing behind this but i think this fixed it for me! I actually make it through some gameplay where i didn't crash with the Fatal D3D error for once.

Even though i am running a RTX 2080 Super/64GB/Ryzen 7 3700x and i am more than capable of running it maxed out.
I'm so sorry, but the above methods don't work at all on all computers.

I'm having the same problem. I set all the settings to the lowest and whitelisted my steam folder and it still crashes after an hour-ish of playing. I do think it is something to do with the VRAM

I have had this crash twice now. I'm on a 1080ti

Despite my game lasting longer, sadly it still crashes.

RTX 3080. Same issue periodically.

I was having the same issue, I'd get the D3D error either during or after every quest I did, what seemed to fix it for me was either turning RivaTuner off for Rise and/or deleting the shader.cache2 in the installation folder. I'd suggest anyone having the same issue try it, so far it hasn't happened to me since doing so.

Turning off HD Textures fixed Fatal 24 for me and now makes the game last alot longer... until I randomly get a Fatal D3D error 25 crash lmao. Here's hoping a patch addresses these problems.

For me, I've crashed while checking the argosy from the cat in my room (Room in the Village, not the cat by the smithy at the Hub), and twice fighting in the flooded forest. Once was with strange FPS spikes leading up to it while fighting a Ludroth and another was randomly after fighting a Jyuratodus. Seems pretty random as I can fight in the flooded forest fine every other time. Sometimes I get the error, but the freeze at the cat had no error, just a freeze.

Hey guys, not just the OP but are any of you guys using XMP profiles in your BIOS? Can you try disabling and seeing if that fixes it?
Mono-Kun Jan 24, 2022 @ 10:03pm
After installing this mod I set my graphic settings back to the highest, haven't had any stutters or any crashes yet since then.
