the 'lack of limitations' on MHW caused my old laptop to melt and my new one to need a complete hard drive replacement, and it still looks like desaturated trash with too much clutter and not enough creativity
did you know i just recently found out that the design of coral highlands + rotten vale are both based on underwater biomes? the vale is supposed to be the deep abyssal area of the ocean, with the coral reef above letting it's nutrients aka 'snowfall' flow down to feed the scavengers below. you'd never figure this just from pure in-game exploration, not helped by the plot being "That's where everything goes to die!" which completely destroys / reverses the cycle that you'd otherwise notice here.
based on everything you see and hear in the game, it's just a pit of corpses and that's it. odogaron, the only vale monster that actually drags fallen legiana corpses around, is also the only vale monster that comes up to HUNT the legianas instead of relying on this cycle, and the only other memorable monster from this location is vaal hazak which is literally just a zombie dragon
it's such a freaking cool design and idea to base these biomes on the ocean, and yet look at what we have. a completely white and dead forgettable coral area that nobody has any reason to explore or hunt in beyond the tiny legiana/kirin areas and a bland, crimson pile of fetid corpses with no memorable monsters except a crimson fleshdog and a crimson fleshdragon. I think the only non-endemic life that you can actually point at as being vaguely oceanic themed is legiana, and only in the colours/wing design, and it's only noticeable if you have that damn nudibranch photo in mind in the first place
oh my god this game released 5 whole years ago and im still finding reasons to rant about the coral highlands
I'm glad someone else recognizes the "colorful environment" of the Highlands is literally in like, 3 areas where 90% of the time you never go to. If youre grinding, youre only seeing grey. I will give credit tho, the peak of the Highlands def feels and looks like youre on an island when looking down.
I think they had so many underwater themed areas because they were starting to push for the return of underwater. The MonHun team wants it back, they just dont know how.
I like Rise, but I'm not a weeb, so my judgement isn't clouded by weeb goggles.
The monsters were injected with crack to compensate. That's not better. Monster Hunter is devolving into a button-masher if it keeps going this direction instead of strategic combat like it always has been.
Don't respond unless you can actually read and understand what you're responding to. My post says that I like Rise, but that World is better. You clearly either did not read the post, or you do not comprehend basic language.
3U literally feels like rise creature speed, without the hunter speed to back it up. Which makes it both difficult, and frustrating.
