why are defender weapons so good?

I'm 50 hours into the game and so far i haven't found a monster weapon that's better than the defender tree, whats the point of having all these cool designs and farmable materials when the cheapest and easiest craft is the best lmao

While certainly not intended, Defender weapon helps people like me who lose their save either to corruption or whatever the reason, but still want to play the game, at least until Sunbreak, which is the fat portion of the fun.

you didnt have them when the game came out and had to do everything from zero, if you dont like it just sell them and dont bother, play the game like everyone who actually bought it for full price if you really want to.

Use it if you just want to quickly finish higher ranks and go to master rank, where you get like the best of the best, which you will do eventually anyway and all your lower rank equipment will be pretty much useless then.

The one advantage you have is that you have every weapon as defender versions, which you can use to test without getting too frustrating because you keep dying to some monster, i actually started playing morph axe that way because i could spend more time testing stuff without immediatly rolling back to base and i stuck with it for the rest of the game.

The problem is that a lot of new players don't realize Defender is a cheat gear and just think the game has poor balance in items, like in this case. As mentioned the game is very poor at communicating what Defender stuff is for.

I think it's like a single window right at the start. In the part of the game where a lot of information is dumped on you at once, and it will be a while before you even go to the blacksmith.

Tbh the defender weapons are around 15-20% ore attack than other weapons, and on par with the "Rice hammer" weapons, if you suck art the game, that won't help you much.

As a new player the defender adds some extra strength you would of not normally experience, but you still have to develop skills at using them. I'm on my 4th lowbie character and I've forgone the defender set pretty much blowing through low level and HR with other weapons and armor sets that are normally available at the current level of play. I love using explosion and poison weapons along with certain bug armor at early levels and I'm enjoying the game better than I had the first time with access to the defender swag.

Nothing to do with that. It is almost certainly to do with money. Some stupid business suits probably reasoned that if they can make completing the base game easier and faster, more people will buy and play the expansion, so they told somebody to implement a way for people to get there faster. Something along those lines. No game designer worth their salt would EVER think this is a good idea to give those things to brand new players who do not know how to play the game.

The MH community has become notorious for being gatekeepers, they want you/others to play by their imaginary rules, and they hide their true intentions behind the idea of "we're just trying to protect you." It's incredibly silly and sad at the same time.

gatekeeping and 'love of (thing)' get conflated pretty easily these days, though.

A lot of times people who just like their product and don't want it to become something else entirely are called gatekeepers over it.


I don't care if you use defender weapons, btw. If you're a vet do what you want. If you're a noob I'll caution you for a rude awakening when you can't use them any more, but you can still do what you want.
If you try and get capcom to add them until endgame I might have some complaints.

Its a set that is meant for you to breeze into sunbreak. It's optional. You can use it if you want to and you can toss it away if you don't like it.

not at any point from the day you start and til the day you finish, will anyone ever, hold you at gun point and force you to wear this set. While wearing it (or not) you can do exactly the same thing as you could if you were to not wear it (or wear it). You can farm monster parts for armor sets or weapons, or you can not.

The issue people have with that is mainly because how it affected the community badly with a surprisingly strong impact overall. Even banal things are affected, like, imagine you have a friend you want to convince to enjoy the game together. But they never understand the appeal because they used Defender Gear and stopped playing shortly after ~ and damn ~ the Defender Gear in MH:W is really amazing in that regards...

No. it doesn't.

The cheat mods, unlock mods, perfect roll talisman mods, and "give me 9999 monster parts" mods don't advertise themselves the first time you start the game.
One of them gets more use than the other.
