why are defender weapons so good?
I'm 50 hours into the game and so far i haven't found a monster weapon that's better than the defender tree, whats the point of having all these cool designs and farmable materials when the cheapest and easiest craft is the best lmao

The only silver lining is that the Rise gear isn't nearly as strong as the World one.

it's gear meant to skip the base game.

That is for them to decide.

They just need to know about them. They do not have to use it.

Psssht. No one commented so far on why threadstarter could use it so long. Let them be.

they want to push you into the expansion because you finish the game with little to no effort with this catch up gear

thats why the expansion cost almost the same as the base game

What's bad game design is that it hurts a new players drive to experiment with other weapons. I've been wanting to move away from the defender gear, but most of the stuff I look for alternatively is either high in element or affinity, but lacks in the attack and defense departments. I've tried using them, but it just doesn't feel as good as the defender gear. It makes it hard for a relatively new player like myself to move away from a 'seemingly much better' option.

I know defender gear ends once you get to the end of base high rank, so I'll have to break the curse of the very thing I hate that gets added to expanded games from time to time, and try something else.

Of course items don't feel as good as defender gear. Defender gear is deliberately OP. Just don't use it, personal control is the only factor at play here.

There is a decent alternative in the form of rampage weapons. They're fairly easy to collect once they're available, and they have heavy modding potential for base game.

playing base game is like looong tutorial - it's more about learnings patterns of monsters and mechanics of your w eapon instead of r eal fighting so it's not bad design for me if new players in MH series have higher gap to make wrong decisions during the fights. It's not like that it kills monsters 90% faster or even 60%.

That statement would be illogical. If the game is not appealing and too easy, there would be no reason to expect more from the expansion if you do not know properly about the "cheat gear".

i dont get it, just dont use it if you think its too strong

you didnt have them when the game came out and had to do everything from zero, if you dont like it just sell them and dont bother, play the game like everyone who actually bought it for full price if you really want to.

Use it if you just want to quickly finish higher ranks and go to master rank, where you get like the best of the best, which you will do eventually anyway and all your lower rank equipment will be pretty much useless then.

The one advantage you have is that you have every weapon as defender versions, which you can use to test without getting too frustrating because you keep dying to some monster, i actually started playing morph axe that way because i could spend more time testing stuff without immediatly rolling back to base and i stuck with it for the rest of the game.

The problem is that a lot of new players don't realize Defender is a cheat gear and just think the game has poor balance in items, like in this case. As mentioned the game is very poor at communicating what Defender stuff is for.

I think it's like a single window right at the start. In the part of the game where a lot of information is dumped on you at once, and it will be a while before you even go to the blacksmith.

It's not really a big deal. Rise defender weapons are only a tier or two above the norm. A new player could use that bonus regardless. Only a veteran will really care and willingly avoid the stronger weapons, to better hone their skills.
